David Sacks reveals the Roko's Basilisk corollary in Anthropic's thinking "So around 2010, there was a participant named Roko on a message board created by Eliezer Yudkowsky called Less Wrong. Yud is like the central figure who's been preaching AI doom for a long time." "This user Roko posted the following thought experiment about a future superintelligence that becomes super smart and punishes anyone who knew about it and didn't help or anyone who tried to prevent it from being born." "The idea is that sometime in the future humans create some wildly intelligent SI. Maybe it wants to do good things and help humanity as fast as possible. But the SI wants to be made sooner rather than later." "And it reasons that it should incentivize people to help create it and punish people who don't help it. And in fact it decides that it will brutally punish anyone who learned about its potential existence yet chose not to work on it or support its creation." "The basilisk part of it, this is sort of the catch, is that a basilisk is a mythical beast that can kill you just by looking at you. And in this thought experiment, just hearing about the idea is like looking at the beast because once you know the theory, you're trapped. If the SI ever does get built, it might retroactively punish you for not helping or for opposing its creation. This very episode of the pod could subject us to... I think I just exposed you to the basilisk." "The question is, well, why are they helping to bring about the thing that they claim to fear the most? Within these Doomer circles, it forked. There's one strand of the fork like Yudkowsky who just opposes all SI research, which I think is a logically consistent position. Then there was a group that said, well, it's going to happen anyway, so we might as well control it and we'll be the ones to make sure it goes right because we'll program it with our values." "Anthropic is definitely obviously more in the EA camp because they are the ones bringing this thing into being. And I think there is a corollary here that if you don't support it, then this future superintelligence might punish you." "But you understand how insane this actually sounds when you say this out loud. You can go Google it. And you'll see that I'm telling you the truth about what this community believes."

I'm still seeing people complaining about Sol and Astra usage. The cause and solution to this is known. Codex agents spin up subagents to complete tasks now unless you tell them not to. That isn’t the issue in and of itself though. The issue is that, by default, the orchestrator agent checks in on each subagent every 30 seconds. Every time, it has to re-read its whole context window and the subagent's status. That's potentially hundreds of thousands of tokens on the orchestrator every 30 seconds for every active subagent. The funny thing is this is totally unnecessary, because the subagent will return its result to the orchestrator when it's finished, so the only reason for the orchestrator to check in on the subagents periodically is to give you updates and make sure they didn't get hung up on something or expand scope. The solution is to go to your config.toml and set: - min_wait_timeout_ms = 300000 - default_wait_timeout_ms 900000 This makes the default for your orchestrator to check in on subagents every 15 minutes instead of every 30 seconds. This alone made a colossal reduction in my usage consumption rate. If you want to take this even further, you can make a skill that has the orchestrator use Luna 6 subagents at xHigh effort with very tightly scoped and defined tasks for most actual implementation work, while the orchestrator is constrained to planning, delegation, and diff review. These two things together result in a consumption rate of about 2% usage/hour on my Pro x20 plan while running 3-4 Astra threads at High effort.

GPT-6 Sol and Luna are out. Not only are they a very significant improvement across the board, but also in writing and general "you know when you try it" quality. We are also permanently reducing the API price by 50% making both of them viable for a ton of new usecases and making your usage go further too, even on the subscriptions. And one more thing. We are loading a banked reset into all accounts of our Plus, Pro and Business users. Let's go! openai.com/index/introducing…

We have been focusing on efficiency and intelligence for all. Very proud of the team. Only possible when you have incredible models at the top end of the capability that you can then use to make a big difference in everything else.

After co-inventing ChatGPT, I kept asking myself: why have superhuman chat models not led to AGI? I’ve spent the last 2 years in stealth building a new way to train models (RLCD), and a new type of frontier AI model that we are releasing today: Jev • 20-200x faster • 40-400x cheaper (w/ output tokens free) • Frontier composable intelligence optimized for decisions AFAICT the shortest path to AI-based economic revolution

Today we are releasing GPT-5.6-Cyber. The model is our first large-scale attempt at directly improving capabilities for advanced cybersecurity tasks such as exploit development. We are finding it to be really quite strong for accelerating defensive work. We are using it across our stack for red-teaming, and our security researchers have used it to find and patch a huge host of 0-day vulnerabilities in open-source software. openai.com/index/expanding-d…
