It's not even like that, because spending $450 actually affects an average person. That is money they could have spent on something else but now won't.
What's crazy about Musk's spending on the midterms is that the amount involved is totally trivial relative to his net worth.
This is like a normal person sending $150 each to three candidates they like.
This is a useful reminder that far left populism is not the neat trick to defeat fascism that many of its proponents claim.
📊 Présidentielle 2027
✅ Le Pen 68%
▪️ Mélenchon 32%
La candidate RN l’emporterait dans l’entièreté du pays, y compris en IDF (54%), et jusqu’à 76% en BFC. @OdoxaSondages
Weirdly none of the people screaming at me on here about the value of Muny are invoking civil rights.
If you want Austin's most valuable land taken up by a golf course, fine. But just ponder that the next time you complain about taxes.

What is not being made clear is what the cost to taxpayers is, either in direct subsidies or the opportunity cost of not developing.
District 8 candidate @Bowen4Austin's opening remarks at the District 8 candidate forum:
"Hello everybody, Jeffery Bowen. I'm a candidate for City Council District 5."

Oh wow, good catch. I totally expected gambling ads b/c the company rep told the Planning Commission earlier this year that it was not one of the prohibited uses.
So idk if city staff was just mistaken, naive or intentionally misleading Council when pushing for this contract.
City staff told council that the new digital billboards would ban gambling ads
BUT @JackCraver has a pic of the first one running a Kalshi sports ad
Guess city is getting into the ‘it’s not gambling, it’s predictions!’ game

I wrote about how awesome it is to save money by buying a house without off-street parking. In the Philly area, this is possible even in many suburbs, where housing was largely built pre-car:

FWIW, I think Rocket looks better in MAGA Christian Casual than in pinstripes.
With Ken Paxton and my friend of 40 years, "Rocket" Roger Clemens, backstage at President Trump's rally in San Antonio. All three of us had the honor of speaking tonight.

there may be many serious downsides to the AI future we are building but at least it will allow us to spend less time with our loved ones

That being said, the best way for cities to try to benefit from this policy would be to legalize "gentle density" housing options more likely to appeal to middle-class families (small lots SFHs, duplexes, triplexes, single-stair apartments).
Using transit funds to engage in pro-natalist virtue signaling is dumb as shit. Dense urban areas are always going to have a higher proportion of young singles. This is just a recipe for big federal subsidies to low-ridership suburban transit projects.

The biggest loser from Prop I will likely be public safety. Prop I is a Trojan horse that's not really about a new PDF report. It's about suing the City to badger departments & cancel tax rate elections. Public safety has the most to lose in that deal:

There are already two digital kiosks in Austin. In theory they will alternate between useful public information and advertisements. I'd be curious what messages people have seen. Any pictures would be great.
Just change the way you talk to them. I told my daughter last night she would face severe sanction if she didn't pursue slumber expeditiously.
