Relevant in today's happenings
HyperNormalization - Adam Curtis Documentary We live in a strange time. Extraordinary events keep happening that undermine the stability of our world. Suicide bombs, waves of refugees, Donald Trump, Vladimir Putin, even Brexit. Yet those in control seem unable to deal with them, and no-one has any vision of a different or a better kind of future. This film will tell the story of how we got to this strange place. It is about how, over the past 40 years, politicians, financiers and technological utopians, rather than face up to the real complexities of the world, retreated. Instead, they constructed a simpler version of the world in order to hang on to power. And as this fake world grew, all of us went along with it, because the simplicity was reassuring. Even those who thought they were attacking the system - the radicals, the artists, the musicians, and our whole counterculture - actually became part of the trickery, because they, too, had retreated into the make-believe world, which is why their opposition has no effect and nothing ever changes. But this retreat into a dream world allowed dark and destructive forces to fester and grow outside. Forces that are now returning to pierce the fragile surface of our carefully constructed fake world.

As we watch things spin out of control in the Middle East I can't help but recall, and I've said it many, many times before and I'll say it again: one human being should not be able to have all this power. The Founders didn't want it that way and they were 100% right.

geopolitics dashboard for interesting times
I vibe-coded this weekend a Bloomberg Terminal for geopolitics, because we're living in special times. Here's the story: 30 browser tabs. Reuters, USGS, flight trackers, prediction markets, government feeds. All open simultaneously. All the time. Ukraine. Gaza. Taiwan. Sanctions. Supply chains. Everything connected. Nothing correlated. So I built World Monitor. One dashboard. 20+ live data sources. Real-time correlation. What it tracks: - 45+ news feeds ranked by source authority (searchable) - 220+ military bases, 111 AI datacenters, 88 pipelines, 55 undersea cables - Live vessel tracking & chokepoint monitoring - Internet outages, earthquakes, weather alerts - Prediction markets vs. news velocity gaps... and more. What you can explore: - Search news across all feeds instantly - Click any pipeline, datacenter, or base for details - Toggle 15+ map layers to spot correlations - Filter events by time range (1h to 7 days) What it detects: - When 3+ sources confirm the same story within 30 mins - When markets move before news breaks - When news velocity suddenly doubles - The "Pentagon Pizza Index" 🍕 - When military planes & vessels density grows & more Philosophy: Information density > aesthetics. Correlation > accumulation. Wire services > blogs. Vibe-coded with Claude. Zero frameworks. Open source. Access at worldmonitor.app/ The world is more connected than ever. Your monitoring tools should be too. P.S.: Inspired by @HipCityReg's work

🥶 Great shot from space of a wintry landscape. You can see ice in New Haven Harbor, some ice in the middle of Long Island Sound, and a lot of ice in Buzzards Bay, Nantucket Sound, Peconic Bay, and the Great South Bay. We're in need of a thaw!

The best place to relax is near water. After just 2 minutes of viewing water outdoors, blood pressure and heart rate drop. It's more calming to look at a lake, pool, or stream than trees or grass. Beaches are popular for a reason. Wider bodies of water bring more tranquility.
