The average person does not have the will to understand people they think are bad as human. They view "pedophiles", "nazis", etc. as inhuman devils so when they encounter one in real life they are unable to clock them because they are typically normal people you can talk with.

you'd be surprised how early kids can learn to dissociate from their own dysphoria and identity issues and even just problems in general. it can happen if they've grown up in a unaccepting or hostile environment and have developed internalised transphobia from that or the media.
