Two rounds of Saharan Dust will be heading into Southwest Florida over the next 10 days. First smaller one this weekend, then a bigger one late next week. Extra glow at sunrise & sunset + helps to lower tropical activity. @WINKNews #SaharanDust

Unofficial records suggest that in recent days the global average temperature was the warmest that has ever been directly measured. What does that mean? 🧵

ALT A red and blue map of the world. The colors represent the amount of heat radiating away from Earth, as measured by satellite. Red colors indicate warm temperatures, and the blue areas are clouds. This is called “brightness temperature.” Most of the map is light red. The southwestern United States, northern Africa, the Arabian Peninsula, and much of Asia are dark red. The image was captured by the NASA/NOAA Suomi NPP satellite on July 5, 2023.

The Saharan Air Layer (SAL) is common this time of year. African dust gets lifted and travels across the Atlantic. This helps limit tropical development by injecting dry air into systems. Animated map here shows this next week with multiple waves crossing. spaghettimodels.com

Saharan Dust from Africa is heading towards Florida this weekend AND next week too. The dust in the upper atmosphere helps suppress tropical activity for the impacted areas and can lead to vibrant sunrises & sunsets. Happens every year. Uptick in sniffling, sneezing possible. @WINKNews
