Just to clarify, because everyone now seems VERY confused: Taylor Farms de Mexico has still been implicated in this cyclospora outbreak. The recall of shredded iceberg lettuce from last week still stands. The false positive test was on lettuce coming over the border from Mexico that was NOT part of the recall. If that positive had been accurate, it would have meant *more* lettuce needed to be recalled. In foodborne illness outbreaks *we often do not ever get positive tests to tie product to illness* especially for highly perishable products like lettuce. It's common to rely on other epidemiological evidence, as FDA and CDC are doing here. Prediction: This is a public health communications nightmare that will be studied for a long time.

Had a ton of fun recapping @axios' recent event on housing, and learned in my research that one recent study found Americans hoping to afford payments on a median-priced home need over 75% more income than they did in 2020 🙃 axios.com/2026/07/17/axios-l…

Insane stat out of today's @axios San Diego newsletter: local parents are shelling out more than 2x the cost of college tuition for child care in the area. axios.com/local/san-diego/20…

Dropped my son off at his (military facility) daycare today, and he cried when we said goodbye. Then I walked out thinking "what if the base is attacked and something happens to him and I put him down and said goodbye even though he was sad." Military families are not okay.

Millions of middle-class Americans who have ACA health plans are facing soaring premiums in 2026 — and tough coverage choices after the new rates kick in Jan. 1. And it often falls to women to figure out a family's insurance puzzle. npr.org/sections/shots-healt…

A lot has changed in 2.5 years. These days I have a barre membership I use ~3x/week. I run, play guitar, read, watch my favorite TV shows, go to concerts, parent, & work full-time. It took until my youngest was almost 3, and the balance can be wonky, but I did it. I'm happy.
Embarrassing confession: I do not know what I like to do. I have two kids under 3.5 and much of my free time is spent in service of our household or doing the bare minimum for myself, so I do not have any hobbies. Except, now I need one. Or several.

Today I did not pee from 6 AM until 3:30 PM in case anyone is wondering what I meant by “sometimes the balance is wonky.”
