This is concerning. For the first time, a Chinese model Kimi K3 has taken #1 on the Frontend Code Arena and is scoring at or near the frontier on other benchmarks. Meanwhile America is tying itself in knots: politicians and bureaucrats are banning new data centers, piling on state regulations, and pushing for new federal agencies to pre-approve frontier models. This is how you lose the AI race. The rest of the world won’t play by our rules if we bog ourselves down. Permissionless innovation is how America won the internet and became the technological envy of the world. We can do it again with AI -- while addressing risks in a targeted way -- or we’ll watch our lead evaporate.
Big news: Kimi-K3 by @Kimi_Moonshot is now #1 in the Frontend Code Arena with 1679 pts, surpassing Claude Fable 5. This is a 17-place jump from Kimi-k2.6 (#18 -> #1). In Frontend, Kimi-K3 ranked #1 in 6 of 7 domains: Brand & Marketing, Reference-Based Design, Data & Analytics, Consumer Product, Simulations, and Content Creation Tools, landing #2 only in Gaming behind Fable 5. The full model weights will be released by July 27. Congrats to the @Kimi_Moonshot team on this major milestone!

Beginning July 20, Claude Fable 5 will be included in all Max and Team Premium plans, at 50% of limits. Pro and Team Standard users will continue to have access to Fable via usage credits, and will receive a one-time $100 credit. Demand for Fable has been challenging to predict, which is why we rolled it out to subscription plans in stages, extending access several times as we secured additional capacity.

NBC, ABC, and CNN refused to air President Trump’s speech on foreign election interference because they say it erodes trust in our elections. Here’s 4 minutes of Dems eroding trust in the 2016 election. It’s not principled. It’s propaganda.

Here is my proposal for a gold-linked Treasury bond to establish a beachhead for sound money at home and a level monetary playing field with our trade partners. Honored and grateful to have it posted just now at the Wall Street Journal: wsj.com/opinion/how-american…

Washington State Democrats just proposed a new wealth tax to address the state's gaping budget deficit. Each time they've propose a wealth tax they lower the threshold at which it would apply. In their first attempt, it applied to people with over a 1billion in assets. Then it dropped to 250million then 100million and now 50million. Given how irresponsibly they've managed the state's budget recently, it's much more likely to be passed by the Democratic super-majority. Washington has a 13 BILLION dollar budget shortfall, which is even worse than Calfornia when you factor in our much smaller population. When Democrats passed the capital gains tax they cheered their new source of funding, which brought in over 800m in its first year. What they didn't realize is that Washingtonians are not forced to pay a capital gains tax. They can either delay or indefinitely postpone selling assets, or they can leave Washington entirely. And, in fact, both of these things happened immediately, with over 10,000 households leaving the state after it was passed. Tax collections from the capital gains tax dropped by half after the first year. So now Democrats have decided that since they can't force successful Washingtonians to sell their assets, they'll just go after those assets directly. This is of course completely crazy (and unprecedented in the United States). No state in the country has a wealth tax because the consequence is wealthy people would immediately leave. Even the ultra-wealthy Democrat megadonor @NickHanauer commented in the Seattle Times that “Even if it clears the legal, implementation & other legal challenges, it’s unlikely to raise much $ given every wealthy person I’ve spoken to in the last few days has said they will leave the state. I believe them. Thoughtful taxes don’t actually drive people away, boneheaded taxes do” His hypocrisy is painful to read: Hanauer was a huge proponent for the capital gains tax. Of course he had already made his wealth so the tax wouldn't affect him as much as new entrepreneurs and small business owners making their wealth for the first time. But a wealth tax WOULD affect him and so now he opposes it. But even his blatant hypocrisy doesn't change the fact that he's correct: our state is going to face massive economic damage if this tax is passed and wealthy Washingtonians flee to states like Florida, Texas, Tennessee and New Hampshire. So how does Washington solve the huge budget deficit? Do what any responsible household would do when faced with a shortfall: cut spending, run things more efficiently, and focus on top priorities rather than blowing billions on ideological hobby horses. Will they do this? Unlikely. They've been in power for 40 straight years and their history shows they only have two tricks: 1. Tax more 2. Spend more

The reason top tech companies often hire foreign-born & first-generation engineers over “native” Americans isn’t because of an innate American IQ deficit (a lazy & wrong explanation). A key part of it comes down to the c-word: culture. Tough questions demand tough answers & if we’re really serious about fixing the problem, we have to confront the TRUTH: Our American culture has venerated mediocrity over excellence for way too long (at least since the 90s and likely longer). That doesn’t start in college, it starts YOUNG. A culture that celebrates the prom queen over the math olympiad champ, or the jock over the valedictorian, will not produce the best engineers. A culture that venerates Cory from “Boy Meets World,” or Zach & Slater over Screech in “Saved by the Bell,” or ‘Stefan’ over Steve Urkel in “Family Matters,” will not produce the best engineers. (Fact: I know *multiple* sets of immigrant parents in the 90s who actively limited how much their kids could watch those TV shows precisely because they promoted mediocrity…and their kids went on to become wildly successful STEM graduates). More movies like Whiplash, fewer reruns of “Friends.” More math tutoring, fewer sleepovers. More weekend science competitions, fewer Saturday morning cartoons. More books, less TV. More creating, less “chillin.” More extracurriculars, less “hanging out at the mall.” Most normal American parents look skeptically at “those kinds of parents.” More normal American kids view such “those kinds of kids” with scorn. If you grow up aspiring to normalcy, normalcy is what you will achieve. Now close your eyes & visualize which families you knew in the 90s (or even now) who raise their kids according to one model versus the other. Be brutally honest. “Normalcy” doesn’t cut it in a hyper-competitive global market for technical talent. And if we pretend like it does, we’ll have our asses handed to us by China. This can be our Sputnik moment. We’ve awaken from slumber before & we can do it again. Trump’s election hopefully marks the beginning of a new golden era in America, but only if our culture fully wakes up. A culture that once again prioritizes achievement over normalcy; excellence over mediocrity; nerdiness over conformity; hard work over laziness. That’s the work we have cut out for us, rather than wallowing in victimhood & just wishing (or legislating) alternative hiring practices into existence. I’m confident we can do it. 🇺🇸 🇺🇸

Now consider Powell's comments below on BTC, gold, & the USD in the context of former Fed Chair Alan Greenspan's 2014 comments on gold & the USD: "Gold is a currency. It is still, by all evidence, a premier currency, where no fiat currency, including the dollar, can match it."
Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell says Bitcoin competes with gold not the U.S. Dollar. Thanks for playing Jay! :)
