【Top leader

A study enrolling 60604 patients in Japan found that patients who had COVID-19 prior to gastroenterological cancer surgery had a higher risk of postoperative pneumonia🇯🇵
This risk was especially significant when surgery occurred within 4 weeks of infection.💉😷

【Selected paper of this month from AGSurg】
This study investigates whether “textbook outcome (TO)” can be used to predict long term outcomes after curative ESCC surgery in elderly patients. TO has been used to define achievement of multiple “ideal” or” optimal” surgical and postoperative quality measures from the patient’s perspective. They report that OS and DFS were significantly longer in the TO than in the non-TO group.
This study has an impact in our rapidly aging society.
