As I've said countless times, sometimes it's not the photograph, but the caption. TOT reader Eddie Dismukes sent in this photo of himself as a young boy in the country near Elgin, Texas back in 1945. Eddie calls it "Inspecting the Troops." Says Eddie: "L-R: I am the young boy, then my cousin, Cy Jackson, Cy's sister, Melba Jackson, my father’s sister, and her husband, John Jackson. Standing behind my aunt is my sister, Peggy. My sister and I were not intended to be in the picture. Growing up I spent many summers with my aunt and uncle out in the country. I learned a lot of life lessons from my uncle John (far right) during these visits. We would often have fried frog legs for dinner, which I loved. They were furnished by older cousins after a night of “frog gigging”. When I was about six years old , Uncle John took me to the dirt tank several yards behind the house. He handed me the 22 rifle, which I had shot many times. He told me to shoot a frog in the middle of the tank so I could have frog legs for dinner. I shot the frog and it was floating in the middle but there was no wind blowing to push it to shore. My uncle John stripped off all his clothes, swam out, and got the frog just so I could have frog legs for dinner. Another life lesson I learned from my uncle John: when he told me to pull his finger ... DON’T!!!!" I love the story. There's an uncle John in every family, I think --- and I am glad for it. Thank you, Eddie. Great stuff!

Aww, that's adorable! Such a patient kitty waiting while his friend finishes lunch
Friends! Mum tries to make sure that Ralphy and I get quiet time together to have lunch and a chat. Please take a moment to marvel at my Manners here. Ralphy is a Very Slow Eater, and I patiently wait for him to finish, never once attempting to help him finish. Please tell me you’re impressed? ❤️

Anonymous Read👇 I am a 32-year-old woman, and I think my family loves me more for what I can do for them than for who I am. I grew up in a family where we were taught that when one person succeeds, everybody has succeeded. I believed it. In fact, I still believe in helping family. But lately, I have started wondering if being a good daughter means sacrificing my own happiness until there is nothing left of me. I was the first child to graduate from university. The first to get a good job. The first to move into a decent apartment and buy a car. When it happened, my parents were so proud of me. My mother would tell everyone in the village, “That is my daughter.” But nobody told me that success would come with so many bills. My younger brother needed school fees. I paid. My sister wanted to start a business. I contributed. My father needed money for a family matter. I sent it. My mother needed money for her church contribution. I couldn't say no. Soon, I became the person everybody called before making any financial decision. Last December, I finally decided to travel for a holiday. It was the first time in years I had planned something just for myself. I had saved for months, and I was excited. Three days before my trip, my younger brother called. He had gotten into trouble with some people he owed money. He needed ₦450,000 urgently. I told him I didn't have it. That evening, my mother called me crying. She asked if I wanted my brother to be disgraced. My father said he never expected me to become so selfish after everything they had done for me. I cancelled my trip and sent the money. Nobody asked how I felt. Nobody asked what I had sacrificed. Two weeks ago, I fell ill and had to spend some time in the hospital. I didn't tell my family immediately because I didn't want them to worry. When I eventually told my mother, the first thing she asked was whether I could still send the money I had promised my sister. I laughed when she said it, but after the call ended, I cried like a child. The most painful part is that I don't think my family is wicked. I think they have simply become so used to my strength that they have forgotten I am human too. Now, I am considering buying a house, but I haven't told anybody because I already know what will happen. Someone will need a room. Someone will need money. Someone will have an opinion about how I should spend my own money. Sometimes, I wish I could lose everything for just one year. Not because I want to suffer, but because I want to know who would still call to check on me if I had nothing left to give. Then I feel guilty for even thinking that way.

I don't think painting a room takes just one day with all those little spots around the door frame to touch up

So glad you got Dubs to the hospital in time. Wishing her a smooth recovery
Update on Dubs For the last couple of days she's been really lethargic and not eating (this little mofo NEVER turns down a french fry) After our adventures yesterday most of the guys came back to the house to celebrate Boops birthday and range day with family. It's just how we do it here. Burgers, dogs, cake and pew pew. Dubs wanted nothing to do with anything. Usually she's running around begging for food and attention. After everyone left my oldest daughter came to me and said Dad you need to look at Dubs she's got crazy looking discharge. So I looked up the symptoms and it all pointed to something called pyrometra. So I called the vet and told them what was going on and they said get to the hospital immediately. Turns out it was pyrometra and had I not brought her in when I did she would've died. Then they gave me the bill... $4800 -$7100 was the estimate She's 4 and would have a long life ahead of her. My choices were $ or death. So I made the most irrational, based purely on emotion decision I think I've ever made and told them to do the surgery. I waited there until it was over, made sure she was good and didn't get home until 4am. Thank you to all of you that cared enough to comment and send prayers. I'll be picking her up this afternoon and dread the final bill hahaha
