Busy day at currency exchange offices as Turks buy dollars to hedge against further falls in lira. Currency is down as much as 7% today alone as Erdogan appears to drop policy of stabilising lira after election wraps.
Today’s 7% lira depreciation against the $ reflects the CBRT letting the lira go in the face of the heavy depletion of reserves over the past weeks. It is a much needed adjustment. A new CBRT governor will face significant challenges.
