A farmer, tired of rats destroying his crops and stealing his grain, came up with a clever but cruel plan. He threw a dead pig into a deep, abandoned well. Attracted by the smell, nearly 80 rats rushed into the well to feast on the carcass. At first, everything seemed wonderful. There was more than enough food for everyone, and the rats ate until they were satisfied.
But when the food was gone, they discovered something terrifying. The walls of the well were too steep to climb. They were trapped. Days passed, and hunger turned into desperation. Desperation turned into aggression. The rats that had once eaten peacefully beside one another began fighting for survival. Eventually, they began killing and eating each other.
One by one, their numbers dwindled until only a single rat remained. Its eyes were bloodshot, and it had survived by consuming its own kind. Then the farmer returned, lowered a rope into the well, and rescued the last surviving rat. But he didn't save it out of kindness or compassion.
The farmer knew the rat had learned to survive by hunting other rats. When he released it into his fields, it would continue killing its own kind instead of eating his grain. The farmer had turned his enemy into his greatest weapon.
And that is the lesson of divide and conquer. Those who control the trap don't need to fight the battles themselves. They simply create the conditions in which others turn against one another.
The rats believed their enemies were the other rats. They never realized that the true enemy was the farmer who had put them there.
The greatest danger isn't always the enemy standing in front of you. Sometimes it's the one who created the conflict and stands quietly watching you destroy each other.
Before you turn against your neighbor because of their political beliefs, ask yourself who benefits from keeping Americans divided. While we fight each other over Republican and Democrat, we may be overlooking those who profit from the conflict. Perhaps the real question isn't which side you're on, but who built the well—and why they want us fighting at the bottom of it.

There is a massive push forming against cold storage.
I can already see the narrative taking shape.
Everyone wants your Bitcoin.
They will offer you everything.
Fear / Convenience / Yield / Rewards. Incentives / Bribes.
Everything.
The objective is simple: convince you that holding your own keys is inconvenient, unnecessary, dangerous, or outdated.
They want you to believe that handing over control is somehow progress.
But the entire point of Bitcoin is that you do not need permission from a bank, an institution, a government, or a third party to hold and control your own wealth.
Cold storage preserves that distinction.
Once you surrender custody, you introduce counterparty risk.
You are no longer simply holding Bitcoin; you are holding a claim against someone else who promises to give it back.
Be careful out there.
You hold what I believe is the greatest sovereign asset in existence.
make sure you understand exactly what you are giving up before anyone convinces you to stop holding it yourself.

How would you answer this?
------------------
Dear Martin,
I am in my fifties and had never invested before due to nervousness about the stock market, but last year following your advice I put about £5,000 into a Stocks and Shares ISA.
I felt very brave and happy with myself. However, the very next day, Trump bombed Iran and I lost £150 overnight. I couldn't believe my bad luck. I hurriedly took it back out again, fearing I would lose even more.
What can you say to someone like me to get them investing again? When I look on the internet it's full of warnings that an even bigger stock market crash is coming.
Thank you!

I want to try something for my Question Time podcast - a 'Your Answers' section, where we read your answers out. I'll of course be answering too (investing is about long term not about daily volatility).
Please write your polite answers below and producer Matt will collate...

False. Once and forever, the greatest 6th man, while he did it, now and forever, was John Havlicek. The most aberrational 6th man, for one year, was the 85-86 Bill Walton. Case closed.

And the 85-86 Celtics would beat them both. Neither would know what to do with Bill Walton, or the Walton-Bird collaboration.

Jason, you’ve watched Bitcoin grow since 2011. It’s now a $1.6 trillion success and the world’s most valuable digital asset. Digital Capital is the killer app. Preserving wealth across generations is a bigger ambition than entertaining a dinner party. The orange tie stays.

I don’t trust any bitcoin L2 rn and I’m skeptical at the speed in which people are patching bugs and making changes to their codebases. My mental model is that the Lindy effect for all bitcoin L2 projects got reset in 2026 and it’s going to take a long time to rebuild trust

It's bitstein's original, i just swapped out the music. We should focus on getting Ocean to 100 EH/s, that would help decentralize more than creating a fork in my view. The fork makes both sides more centralized. Would be happy to discuss. I think the path is to keeping working.

idk man. much of this reads like strawmanning the most extreme sensationalist rhetoric. If you grade bitcoin adoption against Pomp's CNBC statements or against Pete Rizzo's all caps tweets, then yeah it's been disappointing. But most people know those people are carnival barkers and con artists. As long as you developed your own realistic expectations for how bitcoin adoption was going to play out, you'd be okay.
A few notes:
When I say "fiat currencies will collapse", I generally mean over the course of my lifetime. I don't mean in 90 days like Balaji said a few years ago. When Balaji said that crap, most of us on BT mocked him.
-"Stablecoins as a transient phenomenon"
-"SoV -> MoE -> UoA"
-"Hyperbitcoinization"
All the above ☝️ are different ways of rephrasing the same thing, which also suffers the same timeframe fallacy. Nic claims that they failed, but when people said those things, they were referring to timespans of decades.
"Total Altcoin Collapse" is charged language that only produces a binary answer. Could be reframed as "Bitcoin Remains the Dominant Cryptocurrency" and I'd give that a letter grade of A. The amount of cryptocurrency projects since 2017 grew from 20,000 to 60,000,000, and bitcoin's marketshare over them grew from 40% to 60%.
"Nation-state adoption" at D- is dishonest. The United States has an SBR, El Salvador is still buying 1 BTC per day + mines it, Bhutan mines it, Abu Dhabi owns ETF shares and Iran accepts BTC for tolls. Nation state adoption is not as high as it could be but still impressive. I think a B grade is more appropriate.
