Calling the King Oyo Foundation a “parallel kingdom” is a serious accusation, and it should not be made without evidence. A foundation established to support the welfare, development, and legacy of the Omukama and the people of Tooro does not automatically constitute an alternative authority to the Kingdom.
Tooro Kingdom and the King Oyo Foundation are not necessarily competing institutions. One is a traditional institution, while the other can be a platform through which development initiatives, charitable programmes, youth empowerment, education, health, and other causes associated with the King can be pursued.
Supporting the Omukama does not mean that every initiative must operate from within the administrative structure of the Kingdom. In fact, His Majesty's influence, even when he is not the founder, can be used to advance the interests of his people through various legitimate platforms.
Genuine concerns about the Foundation's activities, let them be identified clearly and discussed objectively. But branding an organisation as “divisive,” or an attempt to establish a “parallel kingdom” simply because it operates under the banner of King Oyo is unfair and unnecessarily inflammatory.
The unity of Tooro should not mean suppressing every independent initiative. Unity is strengthened when institutions and individuals work for the common good while respecting the constitutional and cultural position of the Omukama.
Criticise actions where there is evidence of wrongdoing, but do not manufacture a threat where none has been demonstrated. The King Oyo Foundation is not Tooro Kingdom, and it does not need to be. It can simply be a platform dedicated to serving humanity.
