BREAKING: Mistral Co-Founder and CEO Arthur Mensch (@arthurmensch) joins Luke and Ronan in The Arena at 1:15PM BST tomorrow.
Should Europe leave frontier AI to the Americans and the Chinese? The idea has gained ground in Europe. It is a fundamental mistake. Build or surrender: for now, the choice is still ours. Full article below.

Today, we're launching Sazabi version 1.0. The reality of shipping software as a team in the age of AI is actually crazy. Agents merging their own PRs. Hundreds of deployments per day. A codebase that is constantly changing. Junior developers with 10x or 100x leverage. 😵‍💫 I spent the last year building a safety harness for teams that ship with AI. It's called @sazabi. The premise is simple: 1. You send us logs. 2. We detect anomalies, investigate them, and send you back rich, actionable alerts about real problems in your app. Sazabi helps you find issues before your users notice. No monitors or noisy alerts. Just pure signal. And today we're making it available for anyone to use.

palantir is the best company in the world at hiring people who matter, and getting them to do what they want
After six wonderful years at UK Music, I'm joining Palantir UK as Senior Vice President. Palantir is the most interesting company on the planet, doing work of real consequence: helping Britain and its allies defend themselves, helping police protect our citizens and helping NHS staff get patients treated and home sooner. London is comfortably its largest centre outside the US, home to more than one in six employees, the highest proportion among the world's largest technology companies. We have challenges. Some criticism is propaganda. Some raises legitimate questions about large technology companies and sovereign control. Both require answers. Part of my role will be to correct false information while working with our engineers to ensure privacy, security and respect for sovereignty are at the heart of everything we do.

Can self-interested, self-improving, self-replicating agents learn to cooperate? Our new paper, Tapes Together Strong, shows they can: when social behavior, computation, and reproduction share one energy budget, cooperation evolves from scratch. arxiv.org/abs/2609.10817 🧵

*reads x post* "Now is the time for a multi-national treaty for superintelligence" ugh
I’ve never thought we should ban innovation or scientific endeavour but it’s clear we need a new multinational treaty for the safe and regulated development of superintelligence. I’ve written to @antonioguterres @MathiasCormann and @andyburnham to ask that the UN, OECD and G7/G20 act now.

Treasures of the Clarion-Clipperton Zone Britain has two exploration contracts at the bottom of the Pacific. Now, we face a choice about whether we'll remain only a customer in the electrical age. it cannot be understated how important it is to have individuals like Henry doing stints of public service
The UK’s AI Security Institute is an organisation close to my heart. Back in 2023 I was involved in its conception and creation. It’s gone on to do incredible things. A genuinely world leading org that shatters the myth that government can’t do things. So I couldn’t be more delighted to say that I’ve been appointed as AISI’s next Director, working alongside the brilliant @NateBurnikell as its new Chief Strategy Officer. AISI is the world’s most respected organisation for understanding the risks from powerful AI. That is thanks to their superb team of dedicated civil servants and technical researchers. Special thanks to Adam Beaumont who has done a great job as AISI’s interim Director for the last 9 months. He returns to GCHQ having seen AISI go from strength to strength under his watch. I’m hugely grateful for that and excited to work with and learn from him. Last year I wrote about AISI and why its form and function is so important. You can read that piece on the link below - it gives a good flavour of why I’m excited to be joining. I’m looking forward to getting started in September. henrydezoete.substack.com/p/…

this kind of pick me whining is something only a sub 30 sf founder is capable of @pitdesi post is basically foreplay to criticism and the fact you imply he devotes his time to criticising founders is rubbish
1). You should never work with VCs who devote their time to dunking on startups on x. Taking money from Sheel’d fund is a hugely negative signal for the startups who do that for this reason, he is bad for the ecosystem and this behavior is a pattern of his. I’d imagine that his fund will have adverse selection because of this sort of nasty online presence. VCs who endlessly critique startups from the sidelines in public deserve no respect. 2). I don’t talk about our etf business much because we did not officially launch it yet, but it’s not that hard to understand that launching ETFs with (typically) 1/3 to 1/2 the fees of legacy incumbents for comparable products is a strategy that will lead to inflows, even if it takes some time. Clowning on us for this is like clowning on any startup for having small revenue while completely ignoring growth rate, unit economics, etc. giving investors choices at a (typically) lowest in category expense ratio is (in my opinion) a good strategy for our company. If you don’t like it, keep paying the high fees and choose other funds (there’s plenty to choose from)!

its clear to me that great works of creation have a soul to them. last night I sat outside a 12th-century Italian building watching two teenagers film a video. if you asked the laborer who made that chapel why he created it, his answer would have the essence of something beyond himself. I’m not sure the teenagers have any instinct for virtuous creation beyond the primal dopamine validation that comes with likes

it’s kind of incredible to think that the era of famous mathematicians and physicists might be coming to end. they will become a relic of a carbon-based intelligence era. I hope, even when Astra is discovering new laws of mathematics and physics, we remember and tell their stories.
An internal version of Astra, @OpenAI’s next major model family, solved 10 major open problems in mathematics, quantum complexity, and theoretical computer science. We believe it will be a major step for scientific reasoning. openai.com/index/ten-advance…

for those of you travelling around europe this summer, find a cathedral, sit in it and do nothing. In them, there is a spiritual resonance that will bring a sense of awe and peace that can only be found in buildings with 100s of years of history and worship.

there is something deeply demonic about framing a walkie talkie ai as a cure to loneliness

it’s amazing how left coded minds so frequently think in 0 sum games. any position that people like Alistair Campbell hold starts with the view that problems can’t be solved but exist to be surrendered to. all we have is what is available now and this must be more equally divided. the best example of this is how they view the climate crisis vs ai. the starting position is there is no technical progress to be made on climate. and that any data centre built will mean less energy and water for others. this could not be from the truth and yet it is the lens through which the left see the world.

It’s obviously wonderful news @KanishkaNarayan has been appointed to the cabinet. but unfortunately the cabinet is mostly a performative function that doesn’t fully represent the governments top priorities. the folding of dsit into business and trade, and handing it all to Reynolds indicates to me that this government will focus much more on traditional trade policy than it will on AI.

we hold politicians to a platonic ideal that we would never hold ourselves to. this is the most relatable thing Starmer and reeves have done in 2 years. I hope they enjoyed it
Kicked out of government and then off to the pub for a laugh and a giggle All while the country remains crippled Glad to see they’re having a good time credit @SunPictureDesk
