Here’s the thing, sharp coaches have always known the 51%’s from the 98%’s. The math just dresses it all up. The non-sharp coaches don’t understand how to apply the numbers anyway. So we’re right back at square one.
Kyle Shanahan says a 51% analytics recommendation won’t convince him to go for it because he gets one shot, not an hour at a blackjack table “I don’t want to hear about it if it’s 51% of the time we should go for it.” “As I always say, I’m not sitting here playing Blackjack for an hour with no one else at the table, and eventually I’ll get 51% of it. Like, I have this one try, and I have a feel for it. I’ve been doing it too long.” “But what I want to know from him, when it’s not a feel, when it, no, this is 98%. We don’t even need to talk about it. So we don’t need to talk about it. Tell me when it’s that, and I’ll just do it.”

So here’s the thing, it was an extremely dumb move to shove Prescott well after the throw. Hard hit? No. Way late? Yes. Just a very dumb play.
Packers Radio Network reaction to the terrible Roughing the Passer call that wiped out a Carrington Valentine interception. Wayne and Rock as shook as the rest of us.

I’m a doctor, never once heard sleep should be avoided for a blood clot (wtf??). 1) Sleep is not a choice it’s a biological necessity. 2) sitting/standing all day leads to blood stasis - bad for clot. 3) Sleep deprivation leads to stress response & inflammation - bad for clot.
How committed is Jalen Hurts to football? After initially being diagnosed with a superficial blood clot in London, doctors told him not to sleep as a precaution, so he had been awake for roughly 36 hours when he started against the Jaguars, throwing for 220 yards and a TD.

I can’t wrap my mind around a doctor telling someone not to sleep for this. It’s beyond bizarre.

Nothing on this dude’s NFL film over 2+ seasons warrants anything close to a first round pick.
Sources: The #Cardinals and #Texans have engaged in deep negotiations for WR Marvin Harrison Jr., in exchange for significant draft capital. However, Arizona has also informed Houston that they are still listening to potential offers from other teams with the hopes of receiving a 1st-round draft choice. It’s my understanding that several other clubs have reached out with legitimate interest in trying to acquire Harrison, although at least one of those clubs feels MHJ is worth a Day 2 pick. Ultimately, Harrison has been fully informed that he will be moved, but the Cardinals want to maximize value.

Only thing dumber than the fine for shotgunning the beer is believing he was doing anything else but shotgunning a beer in this celly 😭
NFL rescinded the $13,611 fine given to Cowboys TE Jake Ferguson for saying he was “shotgunning a beer”. Ferguson told the league it was his Gatorade celebration that he previously had done on multiple occasions in practice, as the team had documented on social media. Fine rescinded.

The truly elite ones make it look easy. Absurdly man-amongst-boys here
Bijan Robinson reached a top speed of 21.78 mph on his 59-yard TD run, the second-fastest speed by a ball carrier this season and the second-fastest of Robinson's career. @ATLvsNO | #DirtyBirds

6-game suspension is tough. Niners already dealing with myriad injuries. Not sure how Kyle is going to gameplan around this.
#49ers principal owner Jed York has been suspended for six regular-season games and fined $500,000 for violating the NFL’s Personal Conduct Policy, the NFL announced today.   During the time the league’s investigation has been proceeding, York has stayed away from the 49ers first three regular-season games, as well as from NFL league meetings. Those three missed games are counted toward his suspension, and he may return on Tuesday, Oct. 20.

Perhaps “Dick’s” should avoid calling it a “Flash” sale…

You may not like the rule, but by rule this is clear roughing the passer. Not allowed to drive QB into the ground with full body weight, defender has the obligation of tackling to the side or bracing the ground impact. Impossible task? Maybe. Penalty? Yes.
Dear Football Fans, this is a safe space. Do you think this is roughing the passer?

Man is surrounded by a practice squad offense with a first-time defensive HC. Impossible to “grade” him.
Dolphins’ Malik Willis is currently the 33rd-highest graded QB this season by Pro Football Focus, at 48.8 Willis is 27th in ESPN’s QBR Willis is 29th in NFL passer rating

Wild how many comments are “what do you expect they don’t throw him the ball”. That’s just not how the real world works. In the NFL you have to earn targets. They’re definitely NOT feeding guys because they’re worried about effort level if they don’t.
Replying to @JoshNorris
really great blocking effort too, Marv

Maybe you can get away with this if you are prime Randy Moss. Definitely not if you are thus-far-bust Marv Jr.

Just don’t understand why people keep putting Matt Nagy in charge of NFL offenses

Crazy it took this long for NFL offenses to realize they should try to produce big plays.
feels like ben johnson’s fingerprints are all over this league to start the year. everyone is big play hunting. you don’t need to be excellent down to down if you can hit the explosives. this is the NFL’s 3-point revolution.

The biggest takeaway from Rams-Niners is that McVay went full “smartest guy in the room” with the whole travel thing, complete with several days of full court media press bragging about it, only for the whole thing to blow up spectacularly in their faces. Amazing.

The exclamation point 🤌
Jacob is correct here—we really do earnestly believe AI could kill all humans! I personally think it is >10% within the next decade. I believe Anthropic is trying its best, but we do not yet have a plan to solve alignment for superintelligence and are not clearly on track to.
