🚨 Kylian Mbappe on Yan Diomande’s incredible performance against RB Leipzig: “I think people will laugh when I tell them this, but Yan is one of the few young players I’ve met who sometimes forgets who he’s playing with. And I mean that in a good way. There was a moment in training when he stopped me and said, ‘Kylian, when I receive the ball here, don’t come towards me. Just run.’ I looked at him and said, ‘You want me to run?’ He said, ‘Yes. I can find you.’ I started laughing. I told him, ‘Okay, show me.’ And he did. The pass was perfect. Afterwards, I told him, ‘You know, most young players arrive at Real Madrid and spend their first few weeks trying not to make mistakes.’ He said, ‘But if I don’t try anything, why did Madrid buy me?’ I liked that answer. Tonight, when he came on, I could see immediately that he wanted the ball. Some players come into a Champions League match and need 5 or 10 minutes to settle. Yan doesn’t seem to understand that part of football. He assisted my goal, and when I went to celebrate with him, he was already talking about the next attack. Then he scored that volley. I went over to him afterwards and said, ‘So now you’re scoring goals like that as well?’ He said, ‘Kylian, you told me to show you.’ That’s Yan. Of course, he’s young. There are things he needs to improve. Sometimes he tries things that make you wonder what he’s thinking. But I would rather play with a young player who believes he can do something special than one who is frightened of making a mistake. And the funny thing is, he doesn’t seem particularly impressed by any of us. We’re Real Madrid players. He’s a Real Madrid player too. As far as he’s concerned, that’s the end of the discussion.”
