I just reviewed a ms for a journal I wasn't very familiar with, but knew that it was a real, long-standing journal in a field adjacent to mine. I was gobsmacked to find that during review submission I had to rate the manuscript on a scale of 1-5 stars.

Our latest paper is out in Environmental #Epigenetics! We discovered unexpected crosstalk among the different classes of DNMTs, particularly with DNMT1 and DNMT3. Effects of RNAi-by-feeding on DNA methyltransferases in Daphnia pulex academic.oup.com/eep/article…

Limnology meets national news: theatlantic.com/politics/202… Too bad @TheAtlantic didn't ask the right kind of scientist. The solution for a Scenedesmus bloom is simple: add large-bodied #Daphnia, then wait a few days. #AskALimnologist

The title is a bit of a misdirection wrt the content of the interview. The interview is definitely worth reading. Opinion | Nicholas Christakis Doesn't Want to Talk About Halloween chronicle.com/article/nichol…

Apparently, BlackBoard Ultra is so difficult to use that hackers didn't bother to try attacking it.

Five Socratic-based questions to improve your thinking. 1/2 5. What would it take to change your mind? Be specific. 4. If your best reason for believing that was false, would you still believe? (That's called a "real reason check".)

Must get #Daphnia from these lakes, declare them to be a new species, and name it Daphnia etalius.
Canadian lake naming is on another level in British Columbia.

Genomes are not plastic. "Genome plasticity" is a misleading, confusing term.

USC biologist Beth Krizek shows that your major doesn’t have to define you. After earning a Ph.D. in chemistry, she followed her curiosity into plant biology and is now a fellow of the @aaas thanks to her groundbreaking research. @UofSCBiology Read more bit.ly/4mpK3SM

I think my lab should cancel all of our planned research to start studying the disease Bixonimania. I'm sure RFKjr is going to allocate vast sums to research on curing this devastating, horrible, and just plain gross disease with apple cider vinegar and earthsalt.

I think students fail to appreciate just how brave they are being when they submit a manuscript for review. It's like being a nude model for an art class... and then asking the artists to judge you.

Only 58 generations? Shoulda been working with #Daphnia
Scientists in Japan cloned mice for 58 generations. In other words, they cloned a mouse, took a cell from that cloned mouse, and repeated this again and again for 20 years. Clones were healthy through ~generation 28, but then the viability started to drop off.
