When players who've been repeatedly reached out to about serious drinking ( by multiple ex pros) ignore that advice and listen to Dave from Scunthorpe instead ( goo on Son, living the dream!!) alongside sports journalism that cheerleads alcoholism as a funny personality trait amongst its own ranks then football will continue to churn out players ( particularly British) who are particularly prone to career and life issues because of yes, their own choice but also because that choice was cheered on fans, journalism and media who's relationship with alcohol is dodgy at best. Funny how still in 2026 that you can have serious mental health issues as a footballer and the "he's weak" whispers follow them inside the game but being a spoiled, indulged boozer gets nothing but "awww, isn't he lovely though".
