Great news: “Irish Food History, A Companion” edited by @Irish_Cookbooks & Máirtín Mac Con Iomaire has just won Food & Drink Book of the Year @ the Irish Book Awards tonight. Full disclosure- I was one of the 25 contributors to the book.
Interesting that the Guide classified the food @Ballymaloe in 1967 as "Franco-Irish cooking" rather than Irish cooking which was Myrtle Allen was all about....
Wonderful event 👏 by @Culinaryireland @ACEUCC when Prof @darinaallen gave her 1st lecture as the annual Myrtle Allen Memorial Lecture. Plus a panel with @rorysfood @BallymaloeC & Wendy Allen! #darinaprof #yeatsroomfood
And refreshments were organised by @WicklowNatural1 @KennedySantina_ & @themysticcelt provided the goodies from @WWolfBrewery @wicklowwine @FercullenWhisky
Yes, that was a wonderful evening! The online book has 28 chapters, and I'm very honoured to be one of the contributors. My one is called "Eating Abroad, Remembering Home: Food parcels, 1845–1960"

By the way, any suggestions for items, & their sources, for inclusion in the forthcoming book will be very welcome!

Got this yesterday - a very enjoyable read and informative too. Funny thing, Ali verbalises what every Irish person knows innately, but we don't realise that we know it until we see it in print. Love it. Get it.

As a supporter of @CuanGreene ‘s Ómós Digest on Substack, I had the opportunity of attending a master class on knife sharpening by Filip Viskovic @indigoandcloth where he is also barista. Not only that, but Filip has taken some of my favourites to work on them. 🥳 Thank you all
I should clarify that Filip is the barista @indigoandcloth not @CuanGreene …….🤣🤣
Can you believe it? @TheBoxtyHouse is 35 years old! & now run by the second generation. ! Huge credit to @Bacstai & his family, and thank you for the opportunity to celebrate it with you.
And 12 years later, it’s still just talk……
Replying to @adriancummins @conormurphysf
We've come a long way from @JDeclanM and all us @irishfoodchamps shouting about the potential of Food Tourism here on the island of Ireland, back in 2012! 👏👏👏

The latest issue of @EJFDS slipped quietly online as the year turned. Pour yourself a glass of “Honest Claret” (courtesy of @Wine18C_Ireland )and enjoy great articles, book reviews, and the lovely Trinity College Urban Garden.
