CONCURRENT SESSION ANNOUNCEMENT!
We are pleased to share that Dr. Chris Baglow of @McGrathND will offer a concurrent session at the JDV fest on May 15-16th at Saint Joseph Abbey!
His lecture is entitled "Hans Holbein's Dead Christ: An Ecclesiological/Societal Interpretation."
...Do you know that to look at it might make a believer lose his faith?"
Given its daring ambiguity and seeming impiety, this powerful image requires careful interpretation. In this paper I will argue that understanding it in the context of Holbein's day, his later decisions...
...and his celebrated works of portraiture, the decaying corpse portrayed is not so much a portrayal of Christ's true flesh, but of the visible elements of His Mystical Body in the death and decay of European Christendom.
