Uh oh, another book by a doctor. But wait...he can’t cut, he’s not a fuckin’ comedian, and it’s not about you know what. Out two weeks today.

The northern terminal pavilion of Alexander 'Greek' Thomson's 1865 terrace on Oakfield Avenue in the Hillhead area of Glasgow. This is in much better condition than the one at the southern end. #glasgow #architecture #glasgowbuildings #hillhead #architecturephotography

I will write more fully on this shortly - but this is a breathtaking abdication of responsibility by the UK’s medical regulator. This is mass medical deregulation - the @gmcuk literally saying PAs can do whatever they want if their local employer says they can. An NHS scandal.
Today, we’ve published a report on the outcome of our public consultation on the proposed rules, standards and guidance that we’ll use to implement the regulation of physician associates (PAs) and anaesthesia associates (AAs). The report: - details the key changes we have made as a result of the feedback received - provides a comprehensive breakdown of all responses - addresses a range of broader issues raised during the consultation. We’ve also shared our findings with relevant bodies across the system to encourage them to act on feedback that relates to their areas of responsibility. We’re grateful to the over 3,000 individuals, including doctors, patients, the public, PAs and AAs and organisations from across the four countries of the UK who shared their views. We carefully considered all feedback, and this will help to make sure that our approach to regulation supports patient safety. The final rules, standards and guidance will be approved by our Council before regulation begins. Read the full report on our website gmc-uk.org/about/get-involve…

Examining MRCP PACES today. Some candidates were outstanding. Some not so much. A stark reminder of why NATIONAL standards are important. And why scope can NOT be a matter for individual employers. No quality control without stringent external oversight.

If anyone ever asks me which musician was the best actor I tell them it was Frankie Miller in Peter McDougall & John Mackenzie's 1979 Play For Today, Just A Boy's Game. Luckily it's on iPlayer for the next sixteen days so you can decide for yourself. bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/p0…

Vladimir and Véra Nabokov playing chess on their balcony in Montreux, Lake Geneva/Léman and Savoy Alps beyond. I envy them that view. Too bad I can't afford the Montreux Palace. Living there would be a homage both to the Nabokovs and to the lake on whose shores I grew up.
