Potential new National Parks. There are some great options on here. And even my state of Iowa gets some representation!

This is my single most technocratic take. The President should make something like $50M a year. Senators, $1M. House members, $500k. *And* the costs of work-related travel, and of maintaining a second household in the DC area, should be fully covered for members of Congress.
In exchange, ban all Congressional stock trading.

Shortly after the September 11 attacks, Bruce Springsteen sang "My City of Ruins" for a global benefit concert carried by more than 35 U.S. networks.
The song walks through a hollowed-out town of shuttered shops and empty streets before rising into a gospel prayer for strength:
There’s a blood red circle on the cold dark ground
And the rain is falling down
The church door’s thrown open, I can hear the organ’s song
But the congregation’s gone
My city of ruins
Erick Erickson: "How long we remember is a fair question, and other people have answered it before us.
In 1913, 50 years after Gettysburg, more than 50,000 old men returned. Confederate veterans walked up the slope again, and Union veterans waited at the stone wall. When they met, they shook hands instead of firing.
The British have worn poppies every November for more than a century, and almost none of them ever met a man who died at the Somme. Neither of these is grief. Both are a people deciding a thing mattered enough to honor it for as long as they live."

A major new study ranks 60 major U.S. cities on how quickly homes can get permitted and built.
But Chicago was conspicuously absent from the list.
Author @esoltas notes the reason:
“Chicago has thus far not been able to comply with our public records request, as their buildings department does not appear to keep accurate records for issuance dates on certificates of occupancy (the ‘end’ date of our project duration measure).”
Not being able to measure Chicago’s performance against other big cities in this way is a problem.
Where in America can new homes get permitted and built fastest? And are we getting faster or slower over time?
In a new paper with @leonardo_damico and Audrey Wang, we show cities like Raleigh typically *finish* construction before cities like San Francisco even approve it.

WATCH: Rahm Emanuel on what he would do to cut the cost of housing in Chicago.
“I would say OK, I’m gonna put all our zoning laws, all our building laws, and all our permitting/planning laws, and I’m gonna measure them up against Dallas, Houston and Phoenix. You tell me what we have and why they don’t have it. And if you can’t justify it, get it the hell out of here.”

The @Cubs and @mlb had past Wrigley All Star designs like these, the Chicago flag stars, brick and ivy, the 1990 logo and shit the bed with generic corporate work. Only had 36 years to think about this one.
Love that the #Allstargame is coming back to Wrigley next season. But this is the lamest most phone it in logo esp compared to 1990. Not using the Chicago stars, the ridiculous Mastercard logo and the batterman logo in a logo is dumb. @Cubs @MLB

Leigh’s tweet reminds me of this PHENOMENAL photo taken by Gerri Whitley at Montrose Point last year.
It took my breath away when I first saw it. Such a creative way to highlight Chicago’s motto of Urbs In Horto (city in a garden)

Cubs' Pete Crow-Armstrong was asked about how he processes moments like tonight at Wrigley - 38,000 fans chanting his name, getting picked off and having a big AB late.

USA. A Mexican restaurant. We had not yet ordered anything, and the food was already arriving.
Chips. Salsa. Unrequested. Free.
I stopped the waiter. "We have not earned these."
"They just come with the table, man."
They come with the TABLE. In my land, hospitality is a debt. Every gift creates an obligation, weighed carefully, returned in the proper season with interest of feeling. Here, the gift arrives before you have even proven you can pay for dinner.
This is not an appetizer. This is a declaration: we trust you. Eat.
I ate with the gravity the moment deserved. And then — I must report this calmly — the basket emptied, and a new one appeared.
"Did we…?"
"Refill," the waiter said. "It's bottomless."
Bottomless. They have wells of salsa. The supply lines of this nation are beyond anything my ancestors imagined.
My friend warned me. "Don't fill up on chips, dude."
Too late. I had accepted three baskets. Honor demanded each one be finished — an unfinished gift is an insult. By the time my actual food arrived, I was a ruined man.
I was not hungry. I was not comfortable. I had been defeated by a courtesy.
Generosity that arrives before the request cannot be repaid. It can only be survived.
I know the rule now. I have made my peace with the basket. One basket. Two at the most.
Who am I deceiving. There is no number of baskets I would refuse. The trust of a nation is in that salsa, and I intend to honor all of it.

I really don’t think photorealistic AI-generated political ads depicting opposing candidates saying things they’d never say should be allowed.
NEW: The Trump-aligned org Citizens for Sanity is dropping a six-figure ad buy in the Texas Senate race.
The ad is a 15 second clip of AI-generated James Talarico singing a "trans kids" rendition of “Favorite Things."

The Chicago Cubs produce their second 10-game winning streak of the season, and become only the 5th team in MLB history to achieve the feat in their first 40 games, according to @EliasSports .
It was last accomplished by the 1955 Brooklyn Dodgers.
