All students deserve the freedom to pursue an education that is challenging and allows them to reach their full potential. (1/2)

Thank you to the students, teachers, staff and local and State leaders who welcomed me to their schools and communities during the #EducationFreedomTour! I was delighted to meet each of you and to learn what makes your schools unique. #EducationFreedom @MOEducation @ksdehq
You were gracious with your time, proud of your schools, and committed to your students. I saw examples - at every school - of courage to take on anything that stands in the way of success for the students that they serve. #EducationFreedom #RethinkSchool @MOEducation @ksdehq
These schools demonstrated a commitment to change and continuously improve systems to fit the needs of students, instead of putting the needs of “the system” over the needs of the student. #EducationFreedom #RethinkSchool @MOEducation @ksdehq

Every student – no matter where they live, who their parents are, or how much money they have in their pocket – should have the freedom to pursue the education that works for them. #EducationFreedomTour
Excited to start Day 3 of @usedgov Back-to-School 2019 with a visit to Plaza Academy in Kansas City, MO! #EducationFreedomTour
Plaza Academy Exec. Director Ward Worley took me on a school tour where I met with students and staff to discuss their experiences and the school’s approach to creating what they refer to as an ownership-based environment designed to empower their learners. #EducationFreedomTour

I had the opportunity to see the Plaza Academy’s classrooms, including a music production studio where two students performed original pieces about their education. #EducationFreedomTour #EducationFreedom #RethinkSchool
I ended my day with a visit to @UMKC @UMKCPropel, which provides young adults with intellectual development disabilities the opportunity to explore employment and education on a university campus. #EducationFreedomTour #EducationFreedom #RethinkSchool @MODHEWD
This afternoon, I also had the opportunity to meet @UMKCChancellor Agrawal, @UMKCprovost Bichelmeyer and other faculty and staff from the @UMKC community.
While visiting @UMKC @UMKCPropel, I had the privilege of announcing @usedgov @ed_sped_rehab & the Office of Postsecondary Ed’s new Q&A document on Increasing Postsecondary Opportunities & Success for Students and Youth with Disabilities: go.usa.gov/xVEVF

Looking forward to visiting the @UMKC and its @UMKCPropel program this afternoon! @UMKCChancellor @UMKCprovost #EducationFreedomTour
Good morning. Today I’m off to visit schools in the Kansas City, Missouri area. My first stop is to @BeltonSchools’ Kentucky Trail Elementary School to observe their special education program. #Proud2BPirates #EducationFreedomTour @MOEducation
I also had the chance to visit @BeltonSchool 2017-2018 Teacher of the Year Ms. Elizabeth Hart’s special education classroom and her class’ year-round indoor garden. (I also got to meet Riley the Therapy Dog.) #Proud2BPirates #EducationFreedomTour #EducationFreedom @MOEducation

Ms. Hart’s class also showed me their coffee cart, which they use to brew and deliver coffee to the school’s teachers once a week. This coffee ranks as one of the best cups of coffee I’ve ever had. #Proud2BPirates #EducationFreedomTour #EducationFreedom @MOEducation
