Using my Apple Vision Pro at a coffee shop and really wish I had virtual rear view mirrors to look around without exposing my goofy ski googles.

I used the AVP outside in 36 degree weather today. A fun fact, the device noticeably put out a fair amount of heat, to the point that it was very comfortably warming my forehead.

Being willing to ask dumb questions is a superpower. Often by far the fastest way to get oriented in a new domain, and though perhaps counterintuitive, experts tend to love it when people genuinely want to learn about their passion area.

People who say that the Apple Vision Pro is only 4k resolution are missing the point. I would guess it is closer to an effective 8k of resolution. Let me explain:

With Apple Vision Pro these very rapid and natural head rotations we make new "virtual" pixels available. Effectively giving it an effective resolution = 4k x (1 + degrees of easy head rotation / FOV)

It's a lot like memory swap but for pixels. If we can make those non-rendered pixels visible in a near-term cache (with very slight effort) then we get a much higher effective resolution.

Very interesting conversation with a senior figure from Ukraine's defence ministry this morning, largely discussing Western military assistance and the progress of the war. Key takeaway; what you have sent is great, and we're extremely grateful, but it's not enough. 1/

Russia is targeting food. Anybody not resisting Russia in the war has some serious ethical issues.
Russia has destroyed a major Ukrainian grain export terminal in Mykolaiv that plays a crucial role in international food security. This targeted attack is further evidence that Putin is weaponising global famine in a bid to blackmail the international community

As a Russian-speaking person of color who was born and raised in Ukraine, I believe that I am in a position to speak on the issue of nationalism and neo-Nazism in Ukraine. A long thread 👇

Worst story I heard was a couple in hospital whose son died from what they claim was a cluster munition . Artem was 12.

I am sad to see so many proposals by Westerners for a peace agreement with Putin, offering him an "off-ramp" or possibility to "de-escalate" (ban those two words!). Let us go through some elementary propositions.

The faint hearted should not read this. Yesterday, at our own risk, we left Mariupol under gunfire. We stayed overnight in a field in a gray zone. It was freezing outside, thank God we are alive. We are alive to scream that everyone who stayed in Mariupol needs help!
