ALT The objective of the launch was to raise awareness on GBV in some of the hardest to reach areas in both Districts and to celebrate 30 years of the global campaign by highlighting the key success stories, challenges and lessons learnt. Both activities started with a 5km solidarity march to the venue followed by theatre, poems, and speeches by members of the District Gender Technical Working Groups.” #orangetheworld #16daysofactivism #30yearsofactivism #LetsEndFemicide #WEPrinciples #2XChallenge

ALT JCM Power is proud to announce that its 60MW AC (75.6MW DC) Salima Solar project in Malawi has reached commercial operations. The project is the first renewable IPP in Malawi and will provide an average of approximately 150,000 Mwh’s per year, or up to 20% of the power to the country for the next 20+ years. The project welcomed His Excellency Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera, President of the Republic of Malawi, and other key stakeholders at an inauguration ceremony on November 16, 2021 to commemorate this important milestone. We were joined by our co-development partners @InfraCoAfrica and @FMO, who will remain long-term investors in the project alongside JCM Power. The project will provide clean and affordable power to 1.6 million people and is aligned with COP26 objectives as it will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 14,000 tons per annum, or 280,000 tons over the contracted life of the project.

ALT As part of our support of the global campaign, JCM organized a sporting event between four local teams in the Golomoti Community of Malawi. The initiative advocates the use of sport to empower and educate men and women on GBV and share the importance of living a healthy lifestyle. The event also targeted the promotion of prevention and response to GBV between JCM employees, contractors and community members. The event attracted over 3000 community members with members of the District Gender Technical Working Group and local leaders in attendance. Nsuzi were the overall winners, winning the women’s netball match 17-0 and the men’s soccer match, 2-0. #orangetheworld #16days #30yearsofactivism #LetsEndFemicide #WEPrinciples #2XChallenge @UN_Women @WEPrinciples
