"I'd like to see the BC government put absolute number one priority on getting our economy rolling again."
At last week's AME Town Hall in Vancouver, President & CEO Todd Stone had the chance to talk to AME member Patricia Mohr, commodity expert and developer of the Scotiabank Commodity Price Index, about what it takes to accelerate the mineral exploration and development sector in BC.

A day much like today in Vancouver, but one in the early 1960s. By 1965, a building boom would have commenced in the vicinity!
"Vancouver, B.C., Canada", a Natural Color Productions Ltd. card (no. S-970) which looks modern (as a card) but also prehistoric (as an image of Vancouver). As the text on the card notes, "the City annually hosts thousands of visitors from all over the world, who arrive in ships like the 'Canberra' (seen in the Inlet)." S.S. Canberra was an English-registered P&O liner and cruise ship from 1961-97 (other than a short stint as a troop ship in the Falklands War).

Thank you to Minister @JagrupBrar1 for the meeting this morning; we look forward to working closely with the new Ministry of Mining and Critical Minerals.
A successful mineral exploration sector will help government meet its critical mineral and social goals. But there are many challenges facing us.
Today we sat down with newly appointed Minister of Mines and Critical Minerals to talk about solutions. We’re working on behalf of our members to ensure that the Mineral Tenure Act modernization is implemented in a way that is consistent with the justice Ross decision by March 2025. We shared why we can’t afford to get it wrong and how our industry is willing to help build a new path forward that doesn’t leave reconciliation behind.
Thank you to Minister Jagrup Brar for taking the time in your first week to meet with us.

In my oped in BIV, I outline why permitting timelines matter. Delayed permits and the impacts that they have to businesses and communities, hitting the regions the hardest.

Mineral exploration is essential for the mining industry and the future of critical minerals in British Columbia. AME welcomes the BC Conservative Party and BC NDP's recognition of the need to streamline mining project permitting, which is vital for utilizing the province's resources. However, AME urges all political parties to emphasize the importance of greenfield exploration, where industrial activity has not taken place. By advocating for a comprehensive approach to mining that includes robust exploration initiatives, we can unlock British Columbia's mineral potential and ensure a sustainable future for the industry and its communities.

A fabulous tour showing both the vital role that local sand and gravel operations play in the Lower Mainland and the variety of uses for reclaimed land - from berry fields to housing and vineyards.
Just one of the reclaimed sites on today’s #TRCR47 mine tour. This former sand and gravel pit is now Pepin Brook Vineyard Estates. Thank you to Derek Holmes at @AggregatesBC for leading the tour!
