Over 170,00 Salvadorans were set to lose TPS today, a status they've had for 25 years. @DHSGov hasn't made any announcement about termination or extension. Now this vague comment below was given to reporters. A shocking level of callousness over a decision which affects so many.
#BREAKING Overnight : @DHSgov tells me that #TPS recipients from El Salvador will continue to have protections until a decision is made about the program. Those protections were set to expire today. This will likely be a small relief to about 200,000 in the U.S. @SpectrumNewsDC

Was so honored to receive the @CLCA_Foundation award for advocate of the year. Right alongside @CHIRLA as non-profit of the year. Serendipitous, since my time over the years at CHIRLA shaped who I am as an advocate. Proud of Cynthia for continuing to lead the state work 💛

BREAKING: We're suing the Biden administration over executive actions that severely restrict asylum and put thousands of lives at risk. These actions follow the approach of the Trump administration’s previous asylum entry ban, which we successfully challenged in court.

“Dissent must never lead to disorder” - President Biden. From Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s “Letter From Birmingham Jail,” written in 1963: “I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in the stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Council-er or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice; who constantly says "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I can't agree with your methods of direct action;" who paternalistically feels he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by the myth of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait until a "more convenient season."

The Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse is a stark reminder: immigrant lives are too often taken for granted. It's time for systemic change that values the safety and humanity of all workers. @POTUS must extend Temporary Protected Status and Humanitarian Parole to #ImmigrantWorkers

Updating the Registry could also help people stuck in green card backlogs due to country caps. The basic principle is simple: anyone here since X date (in previous versions, 14-18 years in the past) can apply for a green card. Check out our fact sheet: americanimmigrationcouncil.o…
This kind of shit is insane. 5 years of lawful, continuous residence should translate to at least the ability to apply for a green card but it would be better if it would turn into citizenship. Our system is so dumb.

No human being is “illegal.” Immigrants are our friends, family, coworkers, & neighbors. Immigrants are essential to this country & are deserving of citizenship. #SOTU #SOTU2024 #CitizenshipNow #UpdateTheRegistry

Let’s be clear: words matter. And describing anyone as an “illegal” feeds into the hateful rhetoric that MAGA extremists spew everyday. The same rhetoric that has inspired so many deadly attacks against our communities. Do better.

CHIRLA strongly opposes any consideration by @POTUS of extreme Trump-inspired immigration policies. Immigrants are not political pawns & our lives are not to be used in backroom deals where we are not even present and that will hurt us and our nation's moral standing.
