Do you share our observation that the imagery of #Chagall’s 1957 lithograph “Le Concert” — with two lovers in a boat, groups of spectators, many musicians performing for them, a flying angel, and a solitary figure resembling #GeorgeSand playing a lyre — recalls Teofil Kwiatkowski’s 1859 “Polonez, Rêve de Frederick Chopin pianiste”?

The woman portrayed at Chopin’s deathbed by the distinguished Félix Barrias in 1885 resembles #JennyLind, who had known #Chopin since 1841. — Does the scene carry the symbolism of a spiritual union? Abbé Jełowicki was present on 16 Oct. 1849 (he had arrived from Rome) and, according to F. Niecks, sacred music was sung. Jane Welsh Carlyle later wrote that another woman brought “Chopin’s widow” to mind. #ChopinArt

Chopin composed the majestic Polonaise in A-flat major, Op. 53 in 1842 (Jenny Lind returned to Sweden in July) — Arthur Rubinstein once called it “the composition which is the closest to my heart”.
Further research might clarify whether this polonaise is connected to Kwiatkowski’s wedding scenario, “Polonez, Rêve de F. Chopin” (1859).

Following the summer of 1841 with #JennyLind, the late 1841–late 1842 period was exceptionally productive for #Chopin — some 10 major works, including the Ballade No. 4 in F minor, Op. 52: youtu.be/zgbV9RADQLU #GeorgeSand #Nohant

CoE patronage of Icons of Europe’s inauguration in 2002 seemed to reflect the Council of Europe’s interest in classical music — and its potential to support wider issues:

How will the new film portray the different stages of the relationship between #Chopin and #GeorgeSand?
Their romance appears effectively to have ended in Mallorca in January 1839, evolving thereafter into friendship and companionship.
Then: letters, publications and artworks — including Chopin’s own music — support the conclusion that #JennyLind, from 1841 to 1849 and beyond, played a central personal and artistic role in Chopin’s life and legacy.

Adelantada a su tiempo, libre y con una personalidad arrolladora. Así era George Sand, la icónica escritora que conquistó el corazón de Chopin y desafió todos los convencionalismos del siglo XIX. ✨

Today, humanity must become its own Nüwa — repairing the damage caused by climate change and our own degradation of the environment.

Yes — contemporary and historic “artists are essential” to Poland’s identity, creativity, international outreach and economic enterprise.
A key challenge is to set policy priorities for the allocation of scarce resources among Poland’s many cultural institutions and artistic initiatives.

💬 Ministra Kultury i Dziedzictwa Narodowego @MartaCienkowska podczas dzisiejszego wystąpienia w Sejmie:
„Artyści są nam potrzebni. Oni budują pamięć zbiorową, uczą nas krytycznego myślenia i są katalizatorem rozwoju naszej wrażliwości. Ich pracy nie można zmierzyć w złotówkach. Trzeba im natomiast zapewnić podstawowe bezpieczeństwo.
W 2024 roku przemysły kultury i kreatywne wytworzyły blisko 60 mld zł wartości dodanej. Nie można czerpać z efektów pracy artystów i udawać, że sama ta praca nie wymaga zabezpieczenia”.

In October 2020, an official at @prezydentpl explained why Kwiatkowski’s 1859 painting of #Chopin in #LaMadeleine in 1849 — and other Chopin paintings — were not prioritised for display:
“Unfortunately lack of space is a problem of many museums.”
#NationalHeritage #ChopinArt
Below, the 1859 painting “Polonez, Rêve de F. Chopin” shows Teofil Kwiatkowski’s vision of #Chopin & #JennyLind’s wedding in the vaulted #LaMadeleine — planned for ca. 20 Oct. 1849, but aborted days earlier. On the left, VIP guests resemble Queen Victoria, Louis Napoléon and other royals portrayed elsewhere (Lind knew them all).
Two other Kwiatkowski works depict the same scene. And in the 1937 film “Moonlight Sonata”, rich in Chopin–Lind allusions, #Paderewski himself greets the little girl in white:
