Introducing Hugo: the first human companion robot.
At Boston Dynamics, I was Chief Strategy Officer, bringing robots into the real world.
My co-founder, Farbod Farshidian, led research at the RAI Institute.
Together, 15+ years teaching robots to run, jump, and work.
So we asked: what if robots could connect with people?
Hugo runs on the first Vision-Language-Expression (VLE) model.
He links what he sees and hears to movement, expression, and gesture.
He notices you, reads the room, and reacts in real time.
And he's only the first.
Dynamic Creatures is @BostonDynamics' official entertainment and hospitality partner.
We're building a cast of characters with film studios, resorts, and theme parks.

🚀RP1 is officially here.
🌍Putting control of robotics back in developers’ hands.
Introducing RP1 (ROBOTO 01) by RoboParty—a high-performance, fully open-source humanoid robotics platform for frontier robotics research and embodied AI model development.
🤖 Open across the full hardware and software stack:
• Robot platform: mechanical CAD, bill of materials, and assembly documentation
• Actuators: in-house ROMOMO joint designs and related technical resources
• Control: electrical systems, firmware, low-level drivers, and motion control implementations
• Development: simulation models, SDKs, data processing tools, and training tools
• Engineering foundations: technical documentation and research materials
Open the black box.
Understand the system.
Make it your own.
A deviation in motion can originate in the model, control policy, actuator response, or mechanical structure.
RP1 opens up the design and implementation of these layers so developers can trace problems, modify the system, and validate changes on real hardware.
Open-source algorithms for advanced motion control
RP1 has demonstrated continuous walking, recovery from disturbances, getting back up after a fall, and human motion tracking.
UFO and MimicLite connect motion learning, control policies, and execution on real hardware.
The open toolchain connects data collection, simulation training, hardware deployment, and experimental validation—supporting joint iteration across models, control, and hardware.
From RPO to RP1, we’re turning one team’s engineering experience into a starting point for many more.
Opening the future of embodied AI to everyone ready to explore it.

One of the most impactful lines of work in recent years, and we see similar scaling laws at @FlexionAI.
It raises the question: Why spend millions collecting real world data when you can learn this in sim way cheaper?
Kudos to @octi_zhang @mateoguaman @abhishekunique7 and co!
(1/5) Everyone says dexterous manipulation needs real-world data. These policies were trained with none. Our robots mesh gears, thread nuts, and insert pegs zero-shot from RGB, and the same recipe works for locomotion across terrains much harder than before.
The missing piece wasn't a better RL algorithm, but a small tweak to what the robot practices.
Today we're releasing Success-Guided Sampling (SGS), a simple change to the task sampler that unlocks new levels of dexterity and agility with large-scale, end-to-end sim2real RL.
No demonstrations, no per-task reward tuning. Just PPO at scale.
Check out the policies yourself at sgs-rl.github.io! All videos at 1x speed! 🧵 🔈

How do you build the most diverse UMI dataset in robotics?
In the last 8 weeks, we scaled an international UMI data collection operation from 5 to 90 operators, built out a dataset of over 1M+ unique tasks, and continue to capture over 45k+ new tasks each day.
Robotic World Models require much higher diversity of tasks than imitation learning. Here's the why and how behind our operations. 🧵

I did some early emotion and animation design for Microduck for the theater videos I've been doing, and I realized I didn't share how to reproduce them. So here it is. Contributions are very welcome!

Meet Mistral Large 4, aka Le Chonk.
• 1T parameters, natively multimodal. 49B active.
It is the best open weights model from US or Europe on aggregated benchmarks.
• State-of-the-art on critical workloads, including cyber defense, manufacturing and finance and it surpasses closed frontier models on visual grounding.
• Forged in Europe end-to-end and is deployable from Europe via our own Mistral Cloud infrastructure.
• Available to all via API today. Working with cybersecurity partners privately.
Open weights release end of October.

if you're going to IROS don't miss it! I remember in the Swiss Robotics Day the RAI booth was the one I liked the most, they paid a lot of attention to it!
We’re headed to #IROS2026 next week, booth #1102! Ahead of the conference, learn more about the robotic research we’ll be presenting. Topics include methods to enable zero-shot skill composition, whole-body model predictive control for Spot table tennis, and self-supervised learning of LiDAR point representations: rai-inst.com/resources/blog/…

Most companies that shut down give up their impact. This startup did something much better: they open-sourced 1,274 hours of egocentric robotics data. 13,451 recordings of humans doing everyday tasks, as a gift to the robotics community. Thank you @eidon_ai!
Open source has a superpower: work can outlive the organization that created it. More startups should do this!

#NVIDIA Applied Research Internships for 2027 🤖
Bring your research to life on real humanoid robots.
I’m hiring interns to join NVIDIA’s Isaac Loco-Manipulation team. You’ll own an applied research project at the intersection of humanoid robot learning, dexterous manipulation, whole-body control, real-to-sim-to-real, and GR00T and Cosmos foundation models—taking ideas from early experiments to real robot capabilities.
We’re looking for PhD / master students with equivalent experience and strong robotics research or engineering backgrounds. Publications at CoRL, RSS, ICRA, CVPR, or related venues are a plus.
Excited to build robots that learn and act in the physical world? Please submit your information through this application form docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1F…
Please share with anyone who might be a great fit!

Humans learn by interacting with the world: How can we teach robots to similarly adapt to ambiguous dynamics? Introducing Wiggle and Go! #CoRL2026. We find that a specialized model can learn rope properties from just one interaction, and complete complex dynamic tasks.
The robot wiggles a rope once, figures out how it behaves, then goes, using the estimated dynamics to execute the task. No real-world training data. No retries. #robotics #robotlearning
