It's amazing how so much of this play is still relevant. The idea of honor, dignity, culture and tradition being sold for profit by schemers in grey suits. Men who would squander the family's priceless heirlooms to satisfy their base desires. Many of our politicians would rather sell this country's dignity for profit, folks. They would sell Don Lorenzo's house for self-serving interests as the Virgin Queen of these Islands watches in horror. You've seen such things just this week. They sell out our country to cheap warlords. So much has been lost. So much has changed - for the worse. The nobility and virtues of Old Manila are long past us, mga kababayan. 🎢
If anyone wants to know my views on Philippine politics and culture, read Nick Joaquin's "A Portrait of the Artist as Filipino" and its adaptation on stage and on film, "Ang Larawan." It's one of the most moving works of art I've ever encountered. I recall reading it out of curiosity when I was in high-school abroad, a way to connect with my Filipino identity, and it totally captivated me, Its haunting story still sticks with me to this day and I often find myself rereading or rewatching it. The play touches on so many themes; loss, regret, change, idealism. It always gets me emotional reflecting on it, especially seen recent events in our country's history. So much has been lost. For me, nothing encapsulates what it means to be "Filipino" more than the fate of Candida and Paula, the tragedy that befell their family and the loss of the dignity of their old city. My entire view of this country was shaped by it, my politics' guided by a desire to return of what was taken from the sisters by uncaring fate and wicked men. I hope everyone can give it a read or at least watch since the full movie is on YouTube at the moment, with English subtitles. I hope it touches you the way it continues to touch me. youtube.com/watch?v=9SW6pMJ6…

At the end of the day, everyone is a nationalist for something. Most modern liberals and leftists decided to be nationalists for the 3rd-world and burn down the West. All others who call themselves "liberal" do not have to tolerate them or the rot they bring to our nations.
I don’t believe in liberalism anymore. Liberals decided that this was their ideology so I’m out. I define myself as a right wing nationalist.

Unsurprisingly the comic actor who plays piano with his dick proved to be a far more effective warlord than the nondescript sober deepstate policeman.

What happens in France is the result of shoving most of the state's money into pensions... and balloon the deficit to finance it. This leaves the state too little money for law enforcement, infrastructure, education, defence, etc. while sucking the economy dry of private capital.

You have to find whatever small joys you can in the darkest timeline. I have decided to do so by savoring the fact that Palestinian flag has become the global, universal symbol for barbarism and nihilism, proudly waved by every faction that just wants to see the world burn.
A picture worth a thousand words.

BREAKING: Trump has given his "Complete and Total Endorsement" to Benjamin Netanyahu ahead of Israel's October 27 election, warning that the U.S. would have to take on Iran itself if Israel chose another leader. In a message addressed to Israelis, Trump called Netanyahu a "Great Warrior Prime Minister" and said Iran had been systematically destroyed militarily and financially, adding that unless it changes course, "we will soon finish the job." He wrote that if Israel elects "anyone other than Bibi," America would have to do this work itself, which he said he is not inclined to do. The endorsement comes as Netanyahu's Likud trails in polls behind former army chief Gadi Eisenkot's Yashar party.

By paralyzing the nation. You mean destroying everyone's livelihood and making things worse for us and then you will come out as the hero with no plans to make the country better? Sounds like a great idea.
i think one thing filipinos, or even the rest of the world, will never understand about protests is that the point has always been to paralyze the country to the point where those in power are left w/ no choice but to concede. the french seem to understand this better than most.

French communist rioters burned down the Limoges Town Hall. The 143 year old building was a designated historic monument in France. It survived both World War I and World War II. Survived the Nazi occupation of the country but did not survive the French Intifada.

The Philippine Left has been a joke since the start and rightfully deserves another 50 years in the political wilderness.

There is significant indication rioting in Marseille was deliberately targeting Jewish owned business and avoiding Islamic owned ones affording to French Journalist Paul Amar. I just cannot believe we are having this happen in Europe in 2026…
