The lack of players stepping up after the Judge injury is what I’m most frustrated about over the last 30+ days or so.
This was an excellent opportunity for Jazz, Belli, and even Rice to step up and truly lead the team, and they’ve tripped over their feet every step of the way.
(Although Rice has been decent)
Pair that with catastrophic bullpen implosions from Bird and Doval, typical rough rotation starts, and basic underperformance by what should be “contributors” like Dominguez, McMahon, Volpe, Caballero (yes both), Wells and more…. And you get this as a result.
It’s an incredibly frustrating watch.
Still optimistic things will turn around, but performances like today make that hard.
