Huge thank you to President Biden and First Lady Dr Jill Biden for having us as their guests at The White House over the course of a week during March. This collaboration was a year in the making on our end and was the honour of a lifetime to see through. 🇮🇪🇺🇸 @WhiteHouse @POTUS – at Dublin City, Ireland

Ben Affleck: "I’ve always been into computers. I can write pretty shitty Python scripts."
Interviewer: lol
Ben: "So obviously you convert the image into a tensor containing the batch, frame and RGB values of every pixel."
Interviewer: wtf
Ben: "Then run a convolutional neural network for edge detection and feature extraction."
Interviewer: jaw on floor
Ben: "It’s pretty simple."
Ben Affleck reveals he writes Python, understands convolutional neural networks, worked extensively with GPUs, and used his celebrity status to get private looks at Google and OpenAI’s video models
“I’ve always been kind of into computers since I was young. Then, when film started to move from analog film to digital, I became more interested in that aspect of it. The visual-effects workflow for many years has included machine learning, so I can write pretty shitty Python scripts and stuff like that.
“With convolutional neural networks, which were the precursors to what the transformer can do, which is much more computation simultaneously, you would do things like look at what’s called a tensor. That’s the numerical translation of a visual image in numbers, like the batch number, the frame number and the red, green and blue values of each pixel in each frame. It’s just that simple. That numeric is called a tensor.
“You’d use a convolutional neural network to identify patterns that reveal what’s called edge detection or feature extraction, which is identifying patterns well enough to know, this is where the window ledge is, so we can more easily take the green-screen image out and replace it with something.
“That was familiar to me early on because, prior to Artists Equity, I had a small visual-effects company. I’ve worked with GPUs a lot too. The visual-effects guys said, ‘Hey, you should see. There are a couple: Google and this other company, OpenAI, are doing really interesting stuff with transformers in video.’
“I’ve learned that I can actually just call up and go, ‘Hey, it’s Ben Affleck. Can I come see what you’re doing?’ Sometimes people say yes, to my astonishment.”

I was at my friend's funeral when his widow asked me to say a word.
Feeling a little emotional, I stood up, cleared my throat and said,
"Bargain."
His tearful widow touched me on the arm and said,
"Thank you, that means a great deal."

🇵🇸 🇮🇪 “When the full truth of what has happened, what is still happening in Gaza is finally known. When the evidence is gathered, when the testimonies are heard, when the true horrors are finally and fully revealed. It will shame the world. Nobody will be able to say that we did not know. Let it not be said that we did not act.”

I’m sorry, the clip of Zohran Mamdani getting on a Citi Bike while someone yells out “communist!” and him replying that it’s actually pronounced “cyclist” is forever etched in my mind.
I aspire to achieve this level of quick-witted and respectful clapbacks!

What this shows is that the real power doesn't sit with CEOs, Presidents of Associations or Robert Krafts.
It sits with Gavin Bazunu's, Arron Rowe's and Liam Og's.
It sits with people who walk onto stages, football pitches and into factories and onto the streets.
