I have been in sports journalism for 33 years. Even worked at the same venerable journalism sports journalism department as this person. This is NOT journalism. This is straight grift after writing a book on CC. Perhaps its trying to get a second book.
I can’t sit back and read, listen to, or watch this anymore. It’s gone too far. I can’t tell anyone else what they need to do, but this should be publicly condemned.
I commend you for using your voice and platform. I wish more media personnel would publicly stand against this rhetoric. It is becoming more harmful and should NOT be tolerated! The black women in the WNBA should NEVER be diminished, reduced or slighted because this league was built on their backs. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!
“It doesn’t matter about height, it’s all about the heart that you have. And when I go out there, I know I’m one of the best players on the floor, and that’s how I act.”
Canada has been the head of the snake for Atlanta’s postseason run.

Christine Brennan has had a long, successful career in sports journalism. Yet this chapter of it feels increasingly consumed with perpetuating racial dog whistles and the narrative that the WNBA cannot thrive without Caitlin Clark. Different headline, same storyline. It’s tiring.
You know what, I’m going to say it because this has gone too far. The continued obsession with perpetuating the narrative that the WNBA cannot be successful or well attended without Caitlin Clark—and using Black players as the foil in that story—needs to be publicly criticized.
Yes, Dr. Edwards said the WNBA should have anticipated “disappointment and anger” from some Black players. He is entitled to that analysis. But Dr. Edwards does not speak for every Black person—or every Black woman in the WNBA. NOR was that the point of his message.
“A Black man said it” cannot become a permission slip to repeatedly invoke some of the oldest stereotypes about Black women: that we are angry, jealous, bitter or incapable of celebrating another woman’s success. That is where this stops being analysis and starts functioning as a racial dog whistle.
DB with a strong take to the basket. She’s got 18 points, 6 rebounds and 2 steals, providing that veteran presence the Dream have needed all game.
Atlanta leads by 13 with 1:31 left in the third.
Izzy is hesitating a bit out there. She’s prepared for this moment—she just needs to trust herself, play with confidence, and let the game come to her.
Jordin Canada is incredible and should be an inspiration to every young guard coming up behind her. The way she competes, defends, controls the pace and impacts winning is special.
Atlanta is just a bad matchup for the Liberty. They’re too athletic, too quick, and too pesky in the passing lanes. Even without Allisha Gray, they’re giving New York all kinds of trouble. The question is: can they keep their foot on the gas without Gray?
