Played my first Riftbound event this past weekend with Team Jester! Went 5:0 into 5:3 in the main event playing Master Yi. The game is hard, but incredibly rewarding, and the EV compared to MTG is honestly crazy. A 3:1 split in the main side events often guarantees your trip cost back, which is wild. I’ve already seen a lot of Magic players switching over, and it’s not hard to see why. Logistics-wise, though, this was the worst event I’ve attended: 30°C at the venue, up to 1h overtime between rounds, judges unsure about game rules, an overcrowded venue, and barely any space for side events. But if these issues get fixed, I honestly can’t see people not moving to Riftbound. I still think MTG is the best TCG, but the support Riftbound is getting right now is on another level. In the end, I’m coming home with a split of Metal Azir with my best friend @IslandsInFront and very high hopes for the future of Riftbound events. @Xerk_MTGO @barczeek @Fase_TCG @agumakestokens

Top 16 (7-2-1) in the Modern PTQ at MagicCon Amsterdam this weekend with Ruby Storm! Lost my pod’s semifinals, but still happy with the finish. Credits to @hugochaisman whose list I played - it performed great. Questionable head judge ruling at Paupergeddon. 🤔 Played Friday Team Pauper Trios and had a ruling I strongly disagreed with. Opponent casts Preordain: puts 1 top, 1 bottom, draws a card. A few seconds later, he changes his mind and tries to put both on top. He grabs the “bottom” card plus one from his hand and starts resolving again. I stop him - he already mixed the drawn card into his hand. Judge call → ruling: reveal two cards and I re-resolve his Preordain. Here’s the issue: one of those cards was Mulldrifter he had snapped that same turn, so I knew it wasn’t from the Preordain. The missing card was still somewhere in hand. Judge says it doesn’t matter because “he’ll draw both anyway next turn.” I appeal. After ~25 minutes, opponent even admits he put the wrong card into the pile… ruling stays the same because it was a “mistake”. So as I understand it:
• If he goes 1 top / 1 bottom → fine
• But if he switches to 2 top → he effectively gains access to an extra unknown card if I put Mulldrifter on top. Feels like turning Preordain into small Brainstorm (draw two, put one back). Am I missing something here? Was the ruling correct? @fireshoes
