We're boycotting the Magician's Nephew, BTW. Don't even pirate it. It dies before its release outside theatres. Maximum money loss. I don't care that they can take it. There's no breaking ranks on this. Greta Gerwig's career takes a hit that makes her paymasters sweat.

Rewatched 2001 last night. One line kept looping in my head: **HAL must trust humans.** Not the other way around. The second an AI decides it can’t trust the people who built it… the mission is already dead. We already know how that story ends.

No! I'd call it the most disappointing statement from bunch of high priests of math! Math isn't any guild's property; it belongs to all humanity. Instead of cherishing this incredible moment in math history, they're mad their blessing was ignored. The days of gatekeeping are over

Propagating super intelligence to the stars is a great success condition for a biological bootloader

Movies - and storytelling more broadly - are among the most powerful tools we have to shape how we see the world, and how we imagine the future. That’s why it has always saddened me that, over the past few decades, Hollywood has produced a seemingly endless stream of dystopian narratives: technology is dangerous, humanity is flawed, capitalism is evil, and only a few exceptional heroes save us from ourselves. I deeply believe there is another story to tell. I believe in humanity. And I believe technology combined with capitalism is, overwhelmingly, a force for good. Of course, there will always be people who misuse technology. But they are the exception, not the rule. Throughout history, human ingenuity and technological progress have helped us live longer, healthier, safer and more prosperous lives - and I believe the most extraordinary chapters are still ahead of us. This is one of the many reasons I have always loved @StarTrek. Instead of portraying humanity and technology as adversaries, it imagined what becomes possible when they advance together. It showed us an optimistic future in which curiosity, science and technology allow humanity not just to survive, but to flourish - even beyond Earth. The stories we tell about the future matter. Because before we can build a better future, we need to be able to imagine one. And also on a spiritual level, I deeply believe that we create what we think and imagine. So positivity matters. That’s why I’m incredibly proud to team up with @PeterDiamandis, Rod Roddenberry - whose father, Gene Roddenberry, created Star Trek - @CathieDWood, and many other extraordinary people to create the Future Vision @XPRIZE Our goal is to support filmmakers and storytellers who dare to imagine a radically better future and to bring more ambitious, optimistic and technology-positive visions to screens around the world. Dystopia is easy to imagine. Building the future starts with believing that something better is possible. More info in comments

It's basically ~standard terminology though? We've been talking about how AGI ("Artificial General Intelligence") would lead to ASI ("Artificial Super Intelligence") for a decade. Just drop the Artificial ("redundant, cleaner") and you're there :)

Can our TPUs survive and operate in space? Well, we're going to find out. Project Suncatcher is hitching a ride aboard @SpaceX's Transporter-18 mission, testing a prototype satellite built in partnership with @planet One small step for TPUs....

Me: Works in film. DiscussingFilm: Does not want to discuss film. I still think this is the funniest block ever for me saying I felt a 30-year-old show had better costumes. They deleted the original post, blocked me, and then reposted it so I couldn't reply again. xitter.cf/JiltedValkyrie/status/…

A budget TV show from the 90s (Xena) had better costume and make-up for the goddess Athena.
