We strongly condemn the violent escalation at the protest and the destruction of public and private property.
We call on protestors to exercise restraint and to refrain from any acts of violence. Violence has no place in democracies.
Freedom of assembly and expression are fundamental rights and core European values. They should be respected and exercised peacefully.
Constructive dialogue between all stakeholders is the only way forward to address genuine grievances.

A valuable meeting with the Irish delegation that have the EU Presidency for this 6 month term in the framework of the Strategic Agenda for EU Enlargement.
Together with @barrymward Chair of the Oireachtas Joint Committee on European Union Affairs, and @IrlEmbAthens Ciara O’Floinn, we discussed Albania’s European perspective and the need to accelerate its EU integration process.
We share the conviction that Albania should move faster towards the European Union. However, integration is not merely a matter of negotiations, technical benchmarks or deadlines. It requires a fundamental transformation in the way our state is built and governed.
Joining the European Union means governing according to European standards: strong and independent institutions, transparency, accountability, fair competition and respect for the rule of law.
Albania needs a faster pace of integration, but above all it needs genuine, sustainable reforms that improve the everyday lives of its citizens. Europe must be more than our political destination—it must become our daily standard of governance. 🇦🇱🇪🇺🇮🇪

“Congratulations to Albania on its steady progress towards EU integration, including the provisional closure in July of its first three negotiating chapters. This is an important step that makes EU membership a more tangible prospect, while also marking a more demanding phase that will require continued reforms and strong parliamentary oversight.
And the SAPC has a specific contribution to make in this regard as it brings together the Albanian and European Parliaments to exchange views, share experience, and support the Albanian Assembly.
The EU remains fully committed to supporting Albania in this process,” said EU Ambassador Sofia Moreira de Sousa in her remarks.
