For the Ireland’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union, Irish Embassies across the Member States asked the public to try their hand at an Irish idiom.
See if you can spot the Romanian entry!
Ní neart go cur le chéile. Strength with unity.

Two days in Wicklow for the informal Gymnich meeting of EU Foreign Ministers, hosted by the Irish Presidency of the Council of the EU, joined by counterparts from Canada, Iceland, Norway, Switzerland, Ukraine, and the UK.
Key takeaways from our discussions:
* The Black Sea & Global Food Security: Repeated Russian drone incursions into Romania’s airspace and exclusive economic zone, alongside hybrid pressure across the EU, are not isolated incidents—they demand a firm, coordinated European response. Romania is pushing diplomatically for a Black Sea moratorium to halt attacks on port infrastructure and remove immediate security risks. Keeping these routes safe is essential for regional security and global stability, with Black Sea transit directly impacting over 6–7% of the global grain trade. Through Constanța and the EU Solidarity Lanes, in close partnership with Ukraine, the Republic of Moldova, and the European Commission, we keep supplies moving while safeguarding our farmers and domestic market.
* Strengthening EU Foreign Policy & Resilient Supply Chains: Our Union is at its strongest when united and decisive. Improving EU decision-making is vital not just for swift diplomacy, but to actively back strategic trade agreements and direct European investments into partner third countries. Developing alternative supply corridors is an urgent priority to shield our economies from severe disruptions and mitigate the impact of global chokepoint crises, such as threats to the Strait of Hormuz.
* Middle East & Humanitarian Action: Instability in the region continues to hit energy markets and maritime trade. Romania remains committed to tangible humanitarian relief: on 31 August, we carried out our 12th medical evacuation mission from Gaza, safely bringing five critically ill children to Romanian hospitals for urgent care. We will continue to do our part.
Coherence, strong alliances, and turning European leverage into real security for our citizens.

Agreeing the next EU budget by the end of the Irish EU Presidency term is in our collective interest and a key focus of our work.

A huge thank you to @thisisfriz! This mural was commissioned to celebrate the Irish Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
There are a number of Romanian, Irish, and EU symbols throughout can anyone spot some?
We are so excited to have the phenomenally talented @thisisfriz in Bucharest this week.
Friz is putting pen to paper, or spray to wall, on a mural commissioned to celebrate the Irish Presidency 2026 and the longstanding bilateral relationship between Romania and Ireland.

ALT The folk-centric piece highlights shared themes, motifs, and symbols that exist throughout Irish and Romanian folklore. There are also emblems and images that celebrate our shared European journey within the mural. Check out the progress below thus far or go in person to see the piece come to life at Strada Prometeu 26, Aviatiei.
We are recruiting!! Please consult our website for further information.
Applications are open until the 20th of July.
