After speaking with Chair Powell this morning, it’s clear the administration’s investigation is nothing more than an attempt at coercion. If the Department of Justice believes an investigation into Chair Powell is warranted based on project cost overruns—which are not unusual—then Congress needs to investigate the Department of Justice. The stakes are too high to look the other way: if the Federal Reserve loses its independence, the stability of our markets and the broader economy will suffer. My colleague, Senator Tillis, is right in blocking any Federal Reserve nominees until this is resolved.

The Panamanian-flagged and Turkish-owned oil tanker, M/T MERSIN, alleged to be affiliated with the Russian Shadow Fleet, is currently sinking off the coast of Dakar, Senegal in Western Africa, after reportedly coming under attack overnight by several uncrewed surface vessels, in possibly the third attack in the last week by Ukrainian Intelligence Services against a tanker linked to Russia.

Amazingly, in addition to the PHOENIX ALMA large program that current Leiden PhD student Sander Schouws won, Leindert Boogaard another PhD student I was privileged to supervise (together with Paul van der Werf in 2021) also won an ALMA LP called HIDING on the Hubble Ultra
Deep Field. Included below is a link to the press release from Leiden University. This just goes to show what awesome PhD students we have in Leiden. I feel privileged to have been able to work with both for their PhDs.
