#SixFeetUnder was so great. Glad on the #100BestTVShows list. Rlly captured the East Side LA of the 00s vibe (wonder what the current and/or PioneerValley version is - gotta be a plan somewhere. #TheLWord helped out the vibe too 😆) tiktok.com/t/ZPLhn3Fkd/ – at Franklin Center, NJ

Intelligence must draw on memory. The mind must not simply compile data — as an algorithm now does more quickly than we can — but recall lived experiences, which contain depths of meaning that only the human soul can recognize, and connect more deeply with the goodness of these experiences. Everything that is good begins “with the Spirit” and thus possesses a breath, a dynamism and a sense of communion that, once experienced, are engraved upon the heart. vatican.va/content/leo-xiv/e…

People dont/cant talk about this movie enough. Natalie Portman's best perf fr sure - and Melton deserved more awards. #ToddHaynes s been quietly making #AmericasBestFilms for a decade (and "the industry" cant seem to handle it 😆) #MAYDECEMBER #DarkWaters #Carol
without a doubt the grower of the decade for me, i really didn’t fully get it the first time but holy fuck may december is officially phenomenal

Rare to see a movie n feel such certainty that I wldve done SUCH a better job at directing - but alas #VERITY, here we are (esp since #HaroldBecker s retired, #JamesFoley s dead & friends keep calling me a #DarkRomantic 😆) #PlausibilityRewrite #NewEnding youtu.be/4sKr_JvyceA?is=gwsa… – at Franklin Center, NJ

That sounds great n all - but who's gnna punish him if he doesnt deliver? Shareholders? The American Public?
Skydance begins its reign over Paramount and Warner Bros. today. Not that promises from a newly consolidated media empire are legal tender… but let’s keep the receipts anyway, shall we? THE PINKY PROMISES: • 30 theatrical releases annually for two years, rising to 32 for the following three* • A genuine mix of tentpoles and smaller films* • $300 million in additional U.S. production spending every year* • A 45-day exclusive theatrical window • The preservation of Paramount and Warner Bros. as distinct creative identities • Protection of the historic studio lots* • $47.5 million in support for displaced entertainment workers and industry programs* • Editorial independence at CNN and CBS News* • Creative risk-taking rather than the endless strip-mining of legacy IP • $6 billion in savings without treating layoffs as the entire strategy *Legally enforceable for five years under the states’ settlement. The others are applause lines. Mark this page for five years…

“Zero AI” was used in the making of 'Artificial,' director Luca Guadagnino says. That goes for all of his movies, in fact. “I’m an old-fashioned guy. I’m analogic. I shoot on 35. I believe in good old performance,” he says. “Jean Renoir used to say: ‘You have to leave the door open to reality on a movie set.’ And how do you do that if you are sending prompts to a computer?” Read THR's exclusive deep dive into 'Artificial': hollywoodreporter.com/movies…

Have a student currently shouting this from the rooftops. Is it another #DotComBubble? #Consciousness
Language is not fundamental to human consciousness. In terms of evolution, it arrived only recently on our timeline. Consciousness evolved over millions of years through sensory awareness, emotion, and the embodied survival instincts of our tribal past; our capacity for empathic engagement and community. Syntactic language only emerged around 100,000 years ago. This is exactly why Large Language Models (LLMs - so called AI) are the wrong pathway to true artificial consciousness. They try to replicate the late-stage "output layer" of human intelligence without building the foundational, embodied awareness that actually generates it. Statistical text prediction is a mirror of thought, not the spine, the guts, the nerves and the subconscious, empathic ability to connect with other living beings. LLMs can never feel, let alone think. We have been sold a trick, not a pathway to superintelligence. LLMs are fraudulent. Their capabilities have already peaked and we are being sold lies about their future potential. Lies with the goal of companies reaching IPO and tricking investors out of hundreds of billion$.

Jean-Luc Godard once said "I await the end of cinema with optimism", implying that the collapse of old studio based commercial cinema would allow something entirely new and purer to be born. It seems like that time is finally upon us.

Lovely words from John Coltrane, b 100 years ago! "My music is the spiritual expression of what I am - my faith, my knowledge, my being." When you begin to see the possibilities of music, you desire to do something good for people, to help humanity free itself from its hang-ups."

“Reading the World” is a remarkable new documentary about Paulo Freire, the acclaimed Brazilian educator whose revolutionary approach to teaching connected literacy to critical thinking and democratic participation. “One of the most important points of his philosophy is that everyone has knowledge,” says Maria Luisa Mendonça, a consulting producer for the documentary.
