Site owners and technical teams should confirm their hosting provider’s update plan and update PHP immediately. Versions before PHP 8.2 no longer receive security updates. PHP users are encouraged to prepare to update. Earlier release if details become public or active exploit evidence.

Effective Immediately, all organizations using PHP for their systems are advised to be prepared for an update addressing two critical vulnerabilities. PHP is widely used for web applications. These vulnerabilities often provide a direct path to the server's file system or database. If an immediate update is not feasible, it is recommend that organizations take the system offline until it can be fully mitigated. NSA will follow up shortly with more specific guidance.

Unpatched sites running PHP 5.4 or later are at risk of remote code execution, data exposure, and crashes.
If your site’s web traffic is proxied through Cloudflare, we deployed protections before official public disclosure. Check the blog post to see which mitigations are enabled by default.
Even with these mitigations in place, update PHP as soon as possible to fix the underlying vulnerabilities.
