They provide a structured way to make sure members of the police workforce are performing well and are being supporting to reach their full potential. Congratulations to Sergeant Winstanley and Constable Downey, winners of a national award for their outstanding work in reducing thefts in Liverpool City Centre! 👏
Thanks to their smart, proactive policing and strong community partnerships, thefts have dropped significantly – with 870 fewer victims since 2022 and an estimated £500,000 worth of property protected.

I am pleased to confirm @CumbriaChief Rob Carden will take over as Merseyside Police's next Chief Constable in September when @merpolchiefcon Serena Kennedy KPM retires.
Rob's appointment was unanimously approved by members of the Police & Crime Panel yesterday following a confirmation hearing and my warmest congratulations go to him.
Rob first joined @MerseyPolice in 1992 and, during his career, he has spent more than 20 years serving the people of Merseyside before moving to Cumbria Constabulary.
This means he fully understands the unique challenges of policing our region and has the leadership experience and clear strategic thinking needed to maintain the exceptional standards and reputation of Merseyside Police & drive the organisation forward. I look forward to working with him.

📢I'm pleased to announce that after a rigorous assessment and interview process, @CumbriaChief Rob Carden is my preferred choice to be the next Chief Constable of @MerseyPolice
Subject to approval by the Police and Crime Panel, Rob will replace @merpolchiefcon Serena Kennedy KPM in September, following her decision to retire.
Before joining Cumbria Constabulary as Deputy Chief Constable in 2022, Rob had spent the majority of his career in #Merseyside, having joined the force in 1992 following in his father’s footsteps.
During his 20 years with the force, he led on a number of extremely high-profile incidents and he fully understands the unique challenges of policing our region. I am sure he will continue Serena's excellent work delivering the best possible policing service for our local communities.

📖PCC Emily Spurrell issues statement as @merpolchiefcon announces retirement.
Since becoming the first female Chief Constable to lead Merseyside Police in 2021, Serena has been a credit to both the force and our region serving our communities with unwavering courage, integrity and dedication.
She has been an exemplary leader. From the awful events in Southport, to the complex investigations into the murders of Olivia, Ashley and Elle, and the resulting prosecutions. To the bombing outside the Women’s Hospital, and the vastly successful policing operation during Eurovision, Serena’s professionalism and drive to do what’s right for our communities has never waned throughout what has been, arguably, the most extraordinary and challenging time Merseyside Police has ever faced.
It has been an honour to work alongside such an excellent Chief Constable, delivering on our shared priorities to keep Merseyside safe and I know she will continue to serve with distinction until she officially leaves the role.
