Research into the behaviours of leaders who deliver transformational change. The factor that makes the biggest difference between those who deliver & those who don't is whether leaders embrace the emotional journey of their people. 6 behaviours that improve the odds of transformation success: 1) Leadership’s own willingness to change 2) Shared vision of success 3) Trust & psychological safety 4) Balancing implementation & creativity 5) Recognition that technology carries its own emotional journey 6) Shared sense of ownership over the outcome hbr.org/2023/05/6-key-levers… V @DrAndrewWhite

It's definitely worth exploring the used books section for health on Amazon. This cost $0.01 with £3.00 delivery from the US.
We're not saying your data is lying to you but its original purpose can contain bias you are not aware of. We wrote this for @theQCommunity about processes you can use to better understand your data and why it exists. #Qcommunity q.health.org.uk/blog-post/un…
One of the biggest issues the health system has is that it doesn't measure demand. It measures the episodes where services are accessed but has no idea of unmet demand. This happens because system performance is service focused rather people focused.
If your brain doesn't tell you, listen to your intuition... we have to do something about demand for services and 'doing' no longer includes talking about it. campaign.r20.constantcontact…

Donald Campbell's Law: "The more any quantitative social indicator is used for social decision-making, the more subject it will be to corruption pressures and the more apt it will be to distort and corrupt the social processes it is intended to monitor"

Dear @BorisJohnson and @MattHancockMatt, You are very welcome to spend £250m on AI for the #NHS. Just as soon as we fix all of the other IT problems first: /thread

Let's put aside the usual question about their funders & use of data and take the argument on its own terms 1/9 I can agree the NHS has some significant dysfunctions and is burdened by its very centralised nature and the overly close involvement of politicians. .

Do you want to be busy or effective?
X : What's the best way to measure performance? Me : Outcomes. X : How about effort spent? Me : And, how are you planning to measure that? X : With timesheets. Me : That can be a dreadful idea ...
A2: We don't use proper service design methods which means we don't learn from failure. In fact nothing is ever allowed to publicly fail because it harms careers rather than being a natural consequence of doing new things #improve4patients
QUESTION 2: What are the barriers that get in the way of our ability to fulfil the potential of quality improvement? Please include #Improve4Patients and A2 in your responses!

For anyone that came along to our system integration event with the @Strategy_Unit this morning. These are the slides. For anyone else. These are still the slides. You can look at them. slideshare.net/Inside_Outcom…

Here's an agile framework for you: 1) How fast do we know we made the wrong decision? 2) How fast can we try something else? 3) Seriously, would we even recognise 1) if it hit us in the face? Everything that doesn't improve on these, is just ceremony.

The content of the system being only updated twice a year seems to have the potential to leave a good few months where people know it is operating unsafely.
Interested to hear from people who use NHS Pathways (in NHS 111 and 999 services) and patients that have had contact with it. DM me.
If anyone has any interest in how promoting behavioural change can impact on health (and other things) then you should listen to this. Actually, there are two preceding podcasts from 2017 that set the scene which are worthwhile as well. freakonomics.com/podcast/liv…

How do we solve a problem like A&E? This is how we can use a simple value proposition to create A&E alternatives that work. insideoutcomes.co.uk/2019/06…

I was just reminded of the time we used to make inspirational posters about outcome measurement. I can't think why they didn't take off.
Yes, we definitely should say this.
Maybe we should just say all 4 of us would like to be joint winners as we're all awesome and should be pooling our talents and working even closer together in the future @AppertaUK @RippleOSI @InsideOutcomes
