IBP is celebrating 25 years of sending free books to people in Texas prisons! Each year we send 15,000+ books out. Our annual holiday fundraiser runs through January 15th. On average each package costs $4.67 to send out- you contribute below. Thank you!

“Surviving my seventh sweltering summer in a Texas solitary confinement women’s prison is easier when I’m escaping in a good book,” Kwaneta Harris writes for The Emancipator. bostonglobe.com/2023/10/23/o…
Exciting news: we are back to hosting volunteer sessions! Please sign up via our website. Also, come join us on Saturday from 12-10 for our 25 year anniversary party at at 3106 E 14 1/2 street Austin! We will have live music, raffle prizes, art from our writers, food and drinks!
TDCJ made a MAJOR unannounced mail policy change a few weeks ago and we haven't gotten clarity since. All packages continue to be returned until non profits/book projects are "pre-approved" to send into Texas Prisons. No clarity on a process/timeframe

"Dear volunteer, your time is a precious gift. Being in prison I know its value. Once spent it cannot be regained, so you have placed a high value on it by caring for those behind bars. Forgotten by most of the human race you make your time an offering of mercy and grace."
Did you know that dictionaries and thesauruses are some of the most frequently requested books from our readers behind bars? If you would like to donate some or see what other books are highly requested, you can visit our website at:

Prisons are no place for people struggling with mental illness. Cultivate care and treatment, not punishment #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth
We are a books project, but our writers constantly remind us how meaning letters are to them- often times even more impactful than the books themselves. Words are humanizing and they can make people feel seen, heard, and valued

Today on international women's day, we are thinking about the thousands of women incarcerated in Texas who face unique challenges. We are thankful to have a chance to connect with women across the state to provide books and legal materials.
We are fundraising today and tomorrow through @ILH_IGH for Amplify Austin. Help us reach our goal of $10,000 in order to support the cost of purchasing highly requested books, mailing packages, and printing resources for people in Texas prisons!
