🧸 Mattel has another major C-suite change
It is clearly reshaping its senior leadership team around execution and capital allocation at a time when investors are increasingly focused on whether the company can extract more value from its portfolio of brands and IP
$MAT named Peter Griffith as CFO effective October 20, and he will also join the board. He succeeds Paul Ruh, who will remain as an advisor through year-end.
Griffith was CFO of Amgen from 2020 through August 2026, where he helped oversee capital allocation, major acquisitions and balance-sheet management. Before Amgen, he ran a private equity/advisory firm, spent more than two decades at EY, including as Global Vice Chair of Corporate Development and earlier headed investment banking at Wedbush
Mattel has now replaced both its CEO and CFO within a matter of weeks, with Roger Lynch taking over as CEO after Ynon Kreiz’s departure

$MAT
For a minute today, I was excited that Mattel $MAT was up today because of the potential acquisition by Authentic Brands or the toy company Zuru.
But then I looked over at Hasbro $HAS and it was also up nearly 4%.
Feels like everything non-AI is up 4% to 5% today.
Part of my Mattel article from last night:
🎯 Mattel $MAT is bringing in a heavyweight CFO. Peter Griffith, most recently CFO of Amgen, takes over on October 20 and also joins the Board.
🔄 The move comes just weeks after Ynon Kreiz stepped down as CEO and Roger Lynch took over.
📉 Mattel is also facing investor pressure to better monetize its IP, with calls for a strategic review that could include a sale, merger or asset divestitures.
💼 Griffith was Amgen CFO from 2020 to August 2026, with experience in M&A, capital allocation and balance-sheet management.
💰 His package includes a $1.3M base salary, 100% target bonus, $1.4M signing bonus and about $9.3M in equity awards.

$ACN finished FY 2026 having repurchased $7.5 billion of stock, or 39.9 million shares, up 62% from the prior year, including $2.3 billion in Q4 alone
Combined with dividends, Accenture returned roughly $11.5 billion to shareholders, almost matching its $11.62 billion of free cash flow
The more interesting signal came in June.
Accenture increased its FY26 repurchase target by $2 billion, with CEO Julie Sweet saying the board did not believe the share price reflected the company’s AI positioning or underlying business fundamentals

🏦 Citizens Financial is pairing stronger earnings with a much larger capital return program
$CFG reported Q3 net income of $636 million, up 29% YoY, while EPS rose 34% YoY and 8% QoQ to $1.41. ROTCE reached 15.1% and positive operating leverage was 5.3% YoY
The board also raised the quarterly dividend by 13% and increased total share repurchase capacity to $1.95 billion, adding $1.3 billion to the $650 million that remained under the prior authorization. The increased buyback represents approximately 5% of its current market cap
And Citizens has a real history of executing on buybacks. Shares outstanding are down roughly 14% over the last four years, so this is not just another authorization sitting on the shelf

💨 AIR Global plans to repurchase up to $100 million in shares by December 2029, which is roughly 9% of its current market cap
This is not its first buyback move this year.
Two months ago, $AIIR shareholders approved the repurchase of 5 million shares from Harraden Circle Investors and related entities at $10.49 per share, for a total of $52.45 million. That block represented about 3% of shares outstanding and was settled by early September
Now AIR is broadening the capital-return story
The new framework includes up to $100 million of additional repurchases by December 2029, alongside a new annual dividend of $0.28 per share beginning in fiscal 2027. Shareholder returns will be funded from equity free cash flow while it continues investing in growth and works toward net leverage of 2.0x or less by December 2027.
There’s also an insider angle.
CEO Stuart Brazier bought 6,000 shares at about $7.35 in August, while CFO Bassem Lotfy bought 4,500 shares at about $7.97

💰 Vistance Networks is returning even more cash to shareholders following the sale of its RUCKUS Networks business
$VISN declared another $1.50 per share special cash distribution, taking total special distributions in 2026 to an impressive $16.50 per share.
The latest distribution is payable November 6 to shareholders of record October 26.
One important wrinkle: because the distribution is 25% or more of the stock’s value, the ex-dividend date will be November 9, the first business day after payment
Vistance sold its RUCKUS Networks business to Belden for $1.846 billion in July, generating roughly $1.75 billion of net proceeds.
Since then, management has been aggressively returning that capital:
Vistance also authorized $250 million of share repurchases this year - $100 million in April, followed by another $150 million in August
CEO Chuck Treadway says the latest distribution, combined with the buyback program, reflects the company’s commitment to returning capital while continuing to invest behind the remaining Aurora Networks business

Winmark is pairing another special dividend with continued flexibility for share repurchases
$WINA declared a $4.00 per share special dividend alongside its regular quarterly dividend of $1.02, for a total payment of $5.02 per share
Both dividends are payable December 1, 2026, to shareholders of record November 11, with the shares expected to trade ex-dividend on November 10
What stands out is the size of the special dividend
Winmark paid shareholders a $10.00 per share special dividend last year. This year, that has been cut to just $4.00 per share
The reason appears to be capital allocation
Management says it is deliberately retaining more cash than in recent years to preserve flexibility for share repurchases while also preparing for $60 million of debt maturities over the next 30 months
We could potentially see Winmark become more active with share repurchases in the coming quarters

🔥 National Fuel Gas is breaking itself into two very different companies
$NFG plans to spin off its Integrated Upstream & Gathering business into a standalone public company, separating its Appalachian natural gas production assets from its regulated utility and pipeline operations
The transaction is expected in the second half of 2027 and will be structured as a tax-free distribution of at least 80.1% of IUG shares to National Fuel shareholders.
National Fuel may retain up to 19.9% of IUG and plans to dispose of that stake tax-efficiently over time to strengthen its investment-grade balance sheet further
Post-spin:
🏭 National Fuel becomes a 100% regulated gas utility/pipeline company
• Nearly $5B of rate base
• 1.1M utility customers across Ohio, New York and Pennsylvania
• ~5 Bcf/day of contracted pipeline capacity
• No incremental equity issuance expected for the next five years under current plans
⛽ IUG becomes a focused Appalachian producer + gathering company
• ~1.1 Bcf/day of natural gas production
• ~5 Tcf of reserves
• 1.2M net acres
• 40+ years of Marcellus and Utica development inventory
• ~25% improvement in capital efficiency since 2023
Why it matters:
National Fuel currently combines a regulated utility with a commodity-sensitive E&P business: two businesses that attract very different investors and valuation frameworks
The spin should let the regulated business trade more like a pure-play utility while giving IUG its own capital-allocation strategy and a natural-gas-focused investor base
👀 National Fuel has increased its dividend for 56 consecutive years, so it will be interesting to see how that dividend and payout policy are handled across the two companies after the separation
