Calling Steam a "walled garden" when you delist games like Rocket League and Fall Guys to make it so people have to go to your shitty ass storefront to play them is a bold choice ngl
Exactly this. Valve has held gaming back for years by locking developers’ PC games into Steamworks’ social walled garden where players can’t talk to other players on iOS, Android, Xbox, PlayStation, Switch, or even other PC stores.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
You can use Steam Datagram Relay (and its servers) on any platform as long as your title ships on Steam. partner.steamgames.com/doc/features/m…

Imagine if you actually made your store more consumer friendly instead of complaining about valve all the time. Instead you spend seemingly every single day just complaining about steam and whining, which, if it were any other CEO, would be looked at as deeply unprofessional.

We are now on a multi-day continued crash out. Maybe if you spent half the time you spend talking about Valve working on your own platform, you could be better than them rather than just talking about it.

I wanted to make a big announcement/reveal for my game soon, but sadly due to the ai slop situation I don't really feel comfortable unveiling the main hook of my game. While I'm very confident that no one can make this game except for myself, I would still like to be careful.

There are AI supporters who claim to care about game devs mental health, yet ignore how their own colleagues are taking trailers for upcoming indie games and using AI to copy and ship them before the original devs can even finish their games. They only care when it affects them.

When a car goes 25 mph nobody cares. That’s what it was designed to do. When a human being runs 25 mph, it’s an accomplishment because a HUMAN BEING achieved it. Nobody gives a shit if a machine spits out the code, art, and animations and creates a game. The reason games are successful comes from people experiencing the developer’s own vision. It’s not just about the product and the profit, it’s about seeing people’s ideas come to life through their own work. Here’s a hard-to-swallow pill for people who support AI: Having dreams and ideas is not actually impressive, everybody has them. It’s putting in the effort yourself to make them happen that makes it impressive, and if you think people will still appreciate that when you used an AI to do the hard work for you then you clearly don’t know what it means to truly create.

China’s first AI-generated theatrical film, ‘Sanxingdui: Future Past’, has bombed at their domestic box office, only making $121,000 USD against a budget of $1.5M USD. In contrast, the crudely animated ‘Niu Lai’ made nearly $10M USD against a budget of $200-500 USD.

What's abhorrent is the consistent lack of any respect for customers that you have. You could show some respect and understanding that there simply is a large group of gamers who don't want AI in their video games. Instead you fight it, you don't listen, you don't care.

Forcing developers to write a political statement to be used against them by the hate mob they’re helping organize is abhorrent.

Joined @SRuhle on MSNOW to talk about the AI bubble, how it's different to the Dot-Com Bubble, and how if AI "doesn't work out" it's everyone's problem, with retail investors making up 20% of the market's volume and having over $4.65tn in direct exposure to AI stocks.

We are in for a cataclysmic decline. A theory I've had recently is that much of the success the games industry enjoyed in the past decade was actually because they didn't adjust for inflation or drastically increase the cost of entry. Gaming from the start was expensive, but by not adjusting prices, wages eventually caught up and surpassed the games themselves leading to insane growth. With $1800 dollar consoles, $80 to $100 games, a digital era with no secondary market for used games, we've rubber banded back further than the industry can recover from. These prices completely shut out younger generations and those yet to be born. So sure you might coast awhile longer on Gen X and Millennials, maybe even part of Gen Z, past that, you have no future.
Xbox reportedly intends to release its next-generation console in 2028 Xbox reportedly projecting the console to cost $1,200 - $1,800, unless the company subsidizes some of the cost Source: Fortune Magazine

And you've been wrong about half the time when you tried to predict the future of gaming so I think Kenny's doing just fine.

This is bullshit, Kenney. I’m the same tech tree following optimist who moved from C to C++, from 2D to 3D, and from closed source to open source. I run a company. I write code. I contribute to published papers. I’ve upped my expectations of AI. Up yours!

According to the GDC 2026 survey most developers are speaking up and they are both not doing it and don't love it.
Replying to @MoralzzX
Developers who are getting value from AI should speak up. There's safety in numbers. MOST developers are doing it and loving it - and if they're not talking about it it's mostly out of fear for haters attacking them, their product, and their company.

NEVER trust future of gaming in hands of Tim Sweeney Every single prediction this guy has ever made came out wrong 💀 He pretty much abandoned PC gaming, while Valve stayed and made PC gaming the amazing experience it has become Now this guy acting like Valve is the enemy and not him... All you care about is maximizing profit and taking over gaming Valve earned the respect of Gamers, you should learn of them instead of vibe coding to try and throw weak baby shades at Valve
The games we've long wanted, which didn't exist because they'd cost several times more to make than they'd earn back, will soon become possible. As will the games developers wanted to build, but couldn't with the resources available. It'll be a new golden age of gaming.
