Just a few hours in the south of Germany and I already feel how much warmer people are in social settings. Nothing like a random compliment from a middle aged Bavarian man who has had a few beers.
How should scholars engage with oral sources? In this article I reflect on the social conventions addressed by Yoruba ìtàn (narrative histories) to contextualise the information they provide on urban life and gender relations in the eighteenth century.

A woman was assaulted.
She spoke up.
Her abuser presided over her case.
She was punished instead.
If this does not make you sick, then you are part of the problem.
