"Whatever you do, wherever you are, don't waste time. Learn, work, and make the effort to understand what is right and what is wrong. Do what is right, and avoid what is wrong. Keep building yourself as time goes on. This requires discipline, self-control, and a clear understanding of what you are doing. And it has to be consistent. You cannot be disciplined at night and then lose that discipline during the day. You have to keep at it. At your age, this is when your life can take one direction or another. You can come out of these years having built yourself into a better person, or the opposite. Things move very fast at this stage of life. You can either build yourself or destroy yourself. It's never too late. Even when you realise that you have lost something along the way, perhaps because you were carried away by emotions or the easy things in life, and you lost your way, whenever you come to your senses, remember that there is still time to turn things around and build a better life. Don't give up and say it is too late, that the damage has already been done. Even when things have gone too far, they can still be put right. Never give up." 𝗔𝗙𝗖𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 | 𝗗𝗔𝗬 𝟮 𝗨𝗡𝗗𝗘𝗥𝗪𝗔𝗬 Day 2 of the third African Futures Conference is underway, bringing together researchers, policymakers and foresight practitioners for a series of virtual discussions on Africa's development and policy futures. Building on yesterday's conversations, today's programme explores alternative futures and examines how data, evidence and foresight can inform practical decision-making. Discussions span climate and human mobility, inclusive transitions, security and geopolitical uncertainty, and the institutional challenges of translating insights into action. Under the theme From Data to Decisions, #AFC2026 continues to explore how Africa can move beyond anticipating change towards shaping its future through informed choices. “Do we really accept that, as black people, we are somehow less human and inferior? Accepting it is not simply a matter of saying “yes.” No one will ask you that question directly. You can even say “no,” but if you behave in the very ways that brought us to the kind of history we have lived through, then, in reality, you have accepted it. You have diminished yourself. And your actions become the evidence. The evidence is in doing the very things that others did, or in trying to justify them with explanations that should never be accepted. There are no two ways about it. Good politics and a good ideology produce positive outcomes. Bad outcomes come from bad ideas. You do not need any other evidence. Many of you are still young. You go abroad to study. Under normal circumstances, there is nothing they know that you cannot also learn. But you can come back having absorbed ideas without questions, ideas that take you away from who you are and try to turn you into something else, something that is not yours. Whether those ideas are good or bad, there is one illness I do not think we will cure anytime soon: when, in your own mind, you stop being yourself and begin wishing you were somebody else. Why would you want to become someone else? To achieve what? In our own history, with everything we have been through, that is exactly how we lost our way. And then you wait for someone from outside to tell you, “This is wrong,” and you immediately agree, without realizing that what is being condemned is you. It is about stripping you of your identity, and you willingly accepting it.” President Kagame | Unity Club Meeting.

Senegal head coach Pape Thiaw has become widely discussed in America because of a statement he made during a press conference. Journalist: “Today, there were very strong winds in the state of New Jersey, and security officials advised members of the delegation not to go outside for your own safety. Why did you go out to perform the prayer?” Pape Thiaw: “Is there anything more important than prayer? I do not think that is your concern. You fear the wind, while we fear Allah, the One who created the wind. We came here for a game of entertainment, yet we have forgotten that we were created to worship Allah. Even if the @FIFAWorldCup World Cup final were being played today and we were one of the finalist teams, we would still go out to perform the Jummah prayer, even if it meant losing the championship. Do not lecture us about the rituals and obligations of our religion.”
