There’s an important new cultural building in town and once again they forgot the door. Read my review of the Phadelphia Ballet’s new home on North Broad.inquirer.com/real-estate/bal…

"My advice: Keep your car — for now, at least — but look for opportunities to get around by other means. Walk to the grocery store. Ride a bike to dinner at a nearby restaurant. Think of these excursions as a trial run."
Urbanists talk a lot about reducing car use and increasing bike and transit use, but they rarely tell you how to make that work in your life. So I figured it was time for an easy step-by-step guide on how to give up your car. inquirer.com/real-estate/car…

‘Bout time New Jersey got its own rock museum. @cookfox did the design. My piece on what it means: inquirer.com/columnists/bruc…
This is not cute. It undercuts @amtrak financially and pushes up prices for regular travelers. Manipulating fares should be a crime. inquirer.com/sixers/amtrak-d…
There’s a story on a feta pastry scandal on the inquirer.com site right now and there is no way my column on solving the retail apocalypse on Market East can keep up in clicks!🥲 Why not read both! inquirer.com/real-estate/mar…
The first experiments to bring neighborhood-style retail to Philly’s Market East are starting this week. Can they change the way we think about this struggling corridor and help transition it to residential? Today’s column: inquirer.com/real-estate/mar…

This reminds me that #Pittsburgh has these empty lots, with transit service, literally just outside of Downtown that is SCREAMING for mixed-use development, including a grocery store. History aside, there's plenty of room for homes here!
Unlike other cities being squeezed by high housing costs, Philly has nearly two dozen surface parking lots in it’s walkable, transit-rich downtown, some nearly 70 years old. Here’s some ideas for putting them back into productive use. inquirer.com/columnists/cent…

Amid some of the city’s most expensive properties, more than two dozen Center City sites continue to be used for public parking. What gives?

As much as I hate to lose neighborhood schools, @PhillyInquirer Paul Davies’ column pushing back against the idea that all Philly’s underused school buildings can be kept open is really smart. inquirer.com/opinion/philade…

Solari, or split flap, boards, in the words of @IngaSaffron, are the "physical manifestation of motion. You are traveling even before you’ve left the station."
There's a new, giant one coming to @JFKairport.

The block where the William Way center is located is a mostly intact stretch of Civil War-era buildings. Now that the Washingtn Square West Historic District has been overturned, there will be no design oversight for what gets built in its place. inquirer.com/real-estate/com…
This could be the first step in overturning Philly’s historic preservation system.

Such an important piece by @IngaSaffron: Historic preservation isn’t the villain in the debate over housing affordability inquirer.com/columnists/hist… via @phillyinquirer
Historic preservation is not the villain! My column (which I wrote before yesterday’s devastating news that a judge had overturned the WSW historic District) shows how we can preserve our heritage and still make sure everyone in Philly has housing. inquirer.com/columnists/hist…

The @internetarchive is doing a lot of heavy lifting, and could use your help to preserve our nation's online history and records from those trying to purge them. My long-ago with its founder, @brewster_kahle , who has chosen an immense, vital task. latimes.com/opinion/opinion-…
What a tragedy to lose the @curbed digital archives. We saved hundreds of years of newspaper archives. We need to value and preserve our digital production, too, especially in a time of AI and so much disinformation. archpaper.com/2026/02/curbed…
