In the provinces of Sucumbíos and Orellana in Ecuador, mining devastates the forest and rivers such as the Punino. The Colombian armed group CDF is already active in the neighboring country, spreading terror and threatening the indigenous communities

InfoAmazonia and @brasildefato visited the territory to understand what the indigenous people think about the construction of a hydroelectric power plant with a reservoir of 97 km² in the Brazilian Amazon and 200 meters from the Tenharim Marmelos boundary.

In the Brazilian Amazon, the project to build a hydroelectric dam is putting at risk communities that depend on the river's waters for their survival. The area of impact of the project is extensive and affects the Piripkura Indigenous Land, which has not been considered. 👇

Gold miners were already working on small rafts on the Puruê River in the Amazon in the 1980s. But after former President Jair Bolsonaro took office in 2019 with the promise to legalize mining, hundreds of industrial-sized dredges began operating in the region.
For me, it was amazing to see these dredges. They really are industrial beasts, which have a certain amount of luxuries that I hadn't seen before in remote jungle areas," says Bram Ebus, Research Coordinator for Amazon Underworld.
Follow our social media for more information about the project. "Dredges - The Dark Business of Gold in the Amazon," a production of the alliance @InfoAmazonia + @ArmandoInfo + @LigaNoSilencio, premieres on Monday, 13, on our official profiles.

Satellite internet, flat-screen TVs, Netflix. These are some of the comforts that gold miners and their families have on the dredges that illegally extract gold from the Puruê River in Amazonas, near the border with Colombia.
In the documentary "Dragas - The Obscure Business of Gold in the Amazon," we learn about the dynamics of those who live in these metal monsters and meet those who protect and profit from the destruction of the local ecosystem.
"Dragas - The Obscure Business of Gold in the Amazon" is a production of the InfoAmazonia + @ArmandoInfo_EN + @LigaNoSilencio alliance and premieres on Monday 13th on InfoAmazonia's social networks.
