Oxford researchers just published a paper arguing LLMs cannot invent anything. Mathematically impossible.
The reason is simple and brutal. A model trained to predict the next word can never believe something the existing data says is wrong. And every real breakthrough in history started with exactly that belief.
In 1903 every prediction machine on Earth would have told the Wright Brothers that human flight was one to ten million years away. Nine weeks later they flew. Not because they had better data. Because they had a theory the data hadn't caught up to yet.
That is the gap between AI and human thinking. LLMs mirror the past. Humans reason into a future that doesn't exist yet. Oxford just proved mathematically that those are two different things.
I use these models every day. This matches what I see. The new stuff always comes from the human at the keyboard who decides the data is wrong.
LLMs don't think. You do.

I used to think of myself as a fairly ordinary liberal.
Free speech. Sex is real. Borders matter. Children should not be medicalised for a feeling. One law for everyone.
None of that was exotic ten years ago. Now each item can get you treated as a heretic.

I think it's more a sign of the times. You are right in attributing this to the right, but you seem unable to see how it also manifests on the left.

On the right: women have to accept any man who wants them as a mate, because they're too picky, and must give that man full access to their bodies for sex any time he wants (no marital rape) and must bear him children with no access to birth control.
On the left: women have to accept any man who wants to call himself a woman as a woman, because they're bigots if they exclude anyone from their idea of 'woman' and must give those males full access to their sex protected spaces, including stillbirth support groups, prisons, and public pool/gym showers, any time he wants with no access to sex protected spaces. For even a lesbian to say no to a male who identifies as a lesbian is bigotry, and really a genital fetish.
