This is the story of a french astronomer, stranded after missing the Venus transit, watches a Tamil Brahmin compute the December 1768 lunar eclipse in < 45 mins with cowries and palm-leaf booklets, matching the Paris ephemerides. In 1768, a man named Nana Moutou walked into a French astronomer's house in Pondicherry and offered to compute an eclipse in front of him. The astronomer was Guillaume Le Gentil of the Royal Academy of Sciences, Paris. He had come to India for the 1761 transit of Venus and was stuck at sea on the day. He waited 8 years for the next one. On 3 June 1769, a single cloud covered the Sun at the exact moment. Nearly 10,000 leagues, he wrote, just to be "spectator of a fatal cloud". Hidden inside the same book is a story nobody tells... Le Gentil had been in Pondicherry barely 8 days when Nana Moutou came with an interpreter. Le Gentil asked for the total lunar eclipse of December 1768. Next morning the man returned with a packet of palm leaves and a bag of cowrie shells. He sat on the floor, moved the shells with a singular speed, kept consulting his little booklet, and gave all the phases of the eclipse in less than three quarters of an hour. Le Gentil checked the numbers against the French Ephemerides. They matched. He gave him more eclipses. Same result. No pen. No paper. The shells were the counters, laid out on the ground. The rules were verses recited from memory while working, the way Europeans use formulas. Once a step was done it was wiped away. And they rarely made mistakes, he writes. Nana Moutou agreed to teach him, under strict secrecy. 4 months of hard work, he said, if the Frenchman had the aptitude. Lessons at 4.30 every evening. Le Gentil changed interpreters 3x and got nowhere. In the end it took him more than a month, an hour a day, to compute a lunar eclipse. His verdict: for lunar eclipses, the error in several he calculated never went > 25 minutes. Tamil Hindus's dominance in the United States 🔥
We need to act now to address the rise in South Asian and Hindu hate in this country. I'm grateful for the individuals who notified law enforcement and everyone whose actions prevented this attack. I will continue fighting to ensure that every community can worship safely.

Balraj Madhok was the Bharatiya Jana Sangh's proto-Modi While Vajpayee wanted the Jana Sangh be a mainstream party that operated within the Nehruvian socialist secular consensus, the Jammu-born (the half Dogra in me had to include this) Madhok sought to steer the party in a more ideological direction Madhok envisaged a Jana Sangh-Swatantra party merger. He advanced a platform sharply at odds with Indira Gandhi’s socialism, calling for a drastic reduction in state controls over the Indian economy. Had his vision prevailed, the Bharatiya Jana Sangh would have become India’s counterpart to Europe’s Christian democratic parties—an ideology combining integral humanism, free markets, welfare provisions, and traditional values. Alas, Madhok proved to be too polarizing. Fissures between him and Vajpayee led to his party expulsion in 1973 Excerpt courtesy of Vinay Sitapati's "Jugalbandi"
Paid tributes to late Balraj Madhok ji & met his family members.

Neither @RepRashida @Ilhan @EleanorNorton @RepChuyGarcia have taken a moment to condemn the barely averted mass shooting at a Hindu temple, but found time to sign on to this. Indians were almost gunned down in Chicago this week, but these leaders are focused on supporting street protests in India.
As the world’s largest democracies, the U.S. and India have an obligation to promote and defend the rights to freedom of assembly and expression. @RepMcGovern and I are urging Secretary of State Marco Rubio to prioritize those freedoms and human rights when he meets with Indian officials in the coming days.

On the contrary, when the Marathas defeated the Portuguese and expelled them from the Upper Konkan, they ensured the safety of the civilians and kept their word upon their final victory.
When the Dutch East India Company (VOC) surrendered Formosa (Taiwan) to the Ming loyalist commander Koxinga (Zheng Chenggong) in February 1662 after the Siege of Fort Zeelandia, many Dutch soldiers and officials were permitted to leave for Batavia (Jakarta), but several Dutch women and children were captured, enslaved, or kept behind.... For nearly four decades, the Dutch East India Company had controlled parts of Taiwan, then known to Europeans as Formosa. That ended when the Ming loyalist commander Zheng Chenggong, better known as Koxinga, brought a massive force against the Dutch stronghold of Fort Zeelandia. After a nine-month siege, the Dutch surrendered. The agreement allowed the surviving garrison and civilians inside the fort to leave. But not everyone was there to be rescued. During the fighting, Dutch families elsewhere had already fallen into Koxinga's hands. Dutch accounts describe male prisoners being executed and surviving women and children being held captive. Among them was the family of missionary Antonius Hambroek. Koxinga sent Hambroek to Fort Zeelandia with an ultimatum: persuade the Dutch to surrender or face death. Two of Hambroek's daughters were safely inside the fort. He could have remained with them. Instead, he reportedly urged the defenders to continue resisting and returned to captivity, knowing what awaited him. He was executed. His wife and children remained prisoners. One of his teenage daughters was taken as a concubine by Koxinga himself. Other captured Dutch women were distributed among commanders or soldiers as wives and concubines. Their individual names largely disappear from the story. Years passed. In 1684, more than two decades after the Dutch surrender, reports indicated that some of these women were still living in captivity. An effort to arrange their release came to nothing. Histories of colonial Taiwan usually remember 1662 as the year Koxinga expelled the Dutch. But military victories look very different when told through the women left behind. The Dutch sailed away from Formosa. Some of their women never did. #archaeohistories

Republicans spent decades holding up Indians as models of legal immigration and assimilation. Law-abiding, successful and patriotic. But the nativists have prevailed for now. New op-ed on the 2026 midterms: firstpost.com/opinion/for-in…
For Indian immigrants, playing by America’s rules is no longer enough The Republican distinction between legal and illegal immigration is collapsing, leaving even high-skilled Indian immigrants in the crosshairs, writes @anangbhai

>we need to become rich like America and China >so we need a revolution like Bangladesh and Nepal
PERSONAL OPINION- This whole outrage over Neha's Bangladesh remark is completely overblown. Sanghis are obviously after her, but now some so-called liberals and insecure youth leaders have joined in to target her over a single line. When we aspire to be rich like America and self-sufficient like China, why can't our youth also take lessons from Bangladesh and Nepal, where the youth brought down regimes on their own shoulders? It was just one statement. This is the classic Sanghi playbook, twist one sentence, assassinate the character, and paint everyone as anti-national. Don't fall into that trap. She has been taking on Sanghis single-handedly. Stand with her instead of dragging her down.

Krishnaji was most likely the son (Crown Prince) of Maratha Maharaja Dharmoji Kumaraji Chalke presiding over the dispute. It's likely he died in 1585 war. We hear of another rebel Maloji who raised a new army. He must be another son or surviving relative of Dharmoji Chalke / Chalukya. Whatever be the case, after April 1585 CE Portuguese - Adilshahi havoc, even the unsung heroic Maloji was defeated in 1590 CE by this same group's joint endeavour. Dreary to think by 1600s' new round of Konkan Brahmin caste disputes, there is no Chalukya / Chalke Naik Maratha *royal* left! In span of a decade such cataclysmic overhauls used to occur! Sacrifices get forgotten, heroes remain unsung. Petty people lose themselves. Worship your gods, love your family and country and never lose sight of what truly matters. In span of one court case, see what happens!

While all this Konkan Brahmin caste controversy was ongoing, Maratha Chalke / Chalukya dynasty of Sangameshwar which was one of its Moderators in 1583 had begun a war with Portuguese Colonialist Empire (Iberian Union) & Adilshahi Empire combined! Mlecchas inflicted brutal destruction. Sangameshwar area is heavily forested and based around the Shastri river. It is described as being exceptionally well entrenched that even the Iberian Union (Strongest State in entire Europe) army faced heavy losses, and the Maratha Chalke Naik army had gunnery / muskets as well!

Prior to this the Sriman-Rajadhiraja Suryaraja Maharaja Rajashri Kanhoji Surve King of Shringarpur interacted with the highest of the high Dravida Brahmin lobbies in Kashi Varanasi city! In 1580s through letters to resolve the caste status dispute regarding Devrukhe Brahmins. Note how there're 2 different Maratha chieftains addressed. Krishnaji and Kanhoji. They're likely of Sangameshwar & Shringarpur respectively. By 1600s, only Kanhoji was the moderator. Why? Because Krishnaji was likely of Chalke Naik clan which was at war in 1585, and defeated!
Old caste conflict records in Konkan are particularly interesting because they preserve references to the old Maratha kingdoms. One such reference mentions Suryaraja Sriman-Rajadhiraja Maharaja Rajashri Kanhoji (Krishnadevaraya) Surve of Shringarpur, who ruled around 1600 CE. This appears in connection with the status dispute between the Devrukhe and Karhade Brahmins.

"Your knowledge and understanding on geopolitics is profound, and I hope India produces more leaders like you." - Rashbehari Bose on Savarkar. This is what the founder of the IIL, which commanded the first INA under General Mohan Singh, said about Savarkar. Yet random intellectuals acting like incarnations of Tagore, and keyboard larpers pretending to be Bhagat Singh, still peddle the same tired Marxist narrative on Savarkar. And the moment you counter them, their first and only rebuttal is calling you an andhbhakt. Exhausting brainrot.

Maharaja Dattatreya Sendraka – “ We should slaughter (conduct a Saka-Jauhar) the women and children & then hobble our elephants and die fighting. *Defeat is worse than death* ” & Marathas actually did it before the final Panipat battle. Never mock the sanctity of the holy Agni

Here you go, from 1400-1500 AD. An Islamic Jurist in Spain, son of an Islamic scholar, who converted to Catholicism and called Muhammad marrying Aisha at such an age "almost murder" and a "sin against nature". Image #1: digitale-sammlungen.de/en/vi… Image #2: sites.lsa.umich.edu/ryanszpi…
I challenge anyone to show me any historical documents prior to late 19th to 20th century that condemn the Prophet’s pbuh marriage to Aisha R.A on the basis of her age.
